You left to study medicine

When you left your hometown, everyone was excited that you were going to study in the big city. Especially since your subject was medicine. They all hoped for a star surgeon born in their sleepy, rural area. Or at least they hoped for a new county doctor, since the doctor of the town retired some years ago and driving to the bigger settlements for a doctor’s visit was expensive and time-consuming.

However, you did not plan to come back anytime soon. Cornflower Fields was a nice, small town with nice people and a beautiful surrounding. But for the younger generation it was dead boring. There is nothing around to spend time. The community center was nice but after a few years, you and your friends knew every spot of it. Despite this, there is just a bar, a restaurant, a playground the small kids and lots of farms and houses. So, you decided to leave and only come back to visit your parents from time to time.

But tings turned out different. At first, studying was great. You had a nice, small apartment and worked as an assistant doctor in a big hospital. You had friends, nice colleagues and a steady income to pay off your student loan. The hospital even wanted to employ you after your graduation. As long as you passed the final exam it was no matter what grades you would get.

Your grades were not the best, to be honest. You passed most of your tests just barely and stayed close behind the average students. Sometimes you were really good too, but this was rather the exception. However, with help from your friends and a goal in sight you worked hard and finally passed your final exams with a fairly stable and average grade. You made it. It was close, but you made it.

But then things turned upside down. You attended the big farewell party at the universities campus like almost everyone who had passed. You met a girl and liked each other. She was an art Student and an incredibly free spirit. You ended up drinking and having sex until dawn.

You should have gotten worried and stayed away when she told you her name was Layla Harrington. She turned out to be the daughter of Roger Harrington, the vice chairman of your hospital. And to say he was furious when he showed up at the campus to pick up his only child would be a huge understatement.

Layla “accidentally” forgot that her father did not allowed her to stay at the party for later than midnight. She was grown up and couldn’t care less about her father’s controlling. Roger, being a well-known control freak even at work tracked down her phone and crashed the party and literally dragged his daughter away from you.

Just a few days later your mentor at work told you that the hospital decided to not employ you. He tried to convince the board, or rather Mr. Harington, to not do something that headless. Young doctors are very needed after all. But Mr. Harrington was not interested in any arguments.

With no reputation, several thousand dollars dept and a barely average graduation, you had a bad chance finding a new job. In the end you had no other choice than to return to your old hometown and work there for a few years until your loan is paid off and you have enough experience to look for a job in a bigger hospital.
