You go to see the wizards

The wizard's guild didn't actually have an office in your small and out of the way town's village but the inn did have one of the enchanted mirrors that the guild used to communicate when they needed to order more grain or warn the village of a coming storm.

You thought it would require some smooth talking to gain access to such a powerful artefact. To your surprise you find it spends most of its time in a forgotten back room and having an eternal flame coming out of your hand is a compelling negotiation tactic. Within an hour of arriving at the inn you're sat in front of the mirror waiting for the mage on mirror duty at the nearest guild hall to notice one of their mirrors is active.

Soon enough an attractive sorceress is sitting on the other end of the call.

Sorceress : "so, you going to put that out?"

Alex : "I was kind of hoping you'd help me with that."

You say a little disappointed she didn't recognize your distress.

Sorceress : "wait, you're saying you're not a wizard?"

Alex : "not that I know of"

You seem to have gotten her attention.

Sorceress : "that's odd, you're a little old for a first time cast. But I suppose I'll need to come so I can inspect you personally"

You know that the nearest village with a wizard's guild is over 10 days travel by carriage and worry you'll need to sleep outside for days.

Alex : "any way you can help me with this while I wait for your journey?"

You say indicating your burning limb.

Sorceress : "journey?"

She says looking a little confused before simply stepping out of the mirror into the Inn.

Sorceress : "I'm Tritera by the way, nice to meet you"

She holds out her hand indicating a desire to shake. You look at your burning digits, unsure how good of an idea this is.

Tritera : "it's OK, I insist."

With her reassurance you reach out and clasp her hand.

Alex : "I'm Alex, Alex Putty"

As soon as your hand met hers the flame went out.
