You get a text from your best friend's mom

You're just getting finished with an assignment from one of your classes as you feel your phone buzz. When you look at it you are confused for a moment, as it is a text message from a number you don't recognize.

"Hi John! This is Alice, Jason's mom." It reads.

Jason has been your best friend since as long as you can remember. You two haven't been as close lately as he went off to college in the next state over and the two of you have both been keeping busy.

"I know this is sudden, but I was wondering if you'd like to come over for dinner tonight. I was hoping we could catch up." The text continues.

You had spent time with Jason's mom multiple times throughout your friendship, but you didn't even know her first name until this moment. You find it surprising that she'd suddenly want to have dinner with you.
