Chapter 29

How does the bus ride go?
You both get off at the same stop
The blond guy from earlier sits up near the front, never looking back toward you. It was like he was doing everything he could to make you feel at ease in his presence. Even though it worked, there was something that you couldn't quite put your finger on about him, especially with how you were feeling at the moment towards this guy who probably saved you from some serious problems today. That nagged at you the whole bus ride.
And then, when the doors opened at your stop and he exited the bus, it nagged at you further. He started walking in the same direction you intended to walk. So, you followed behind him for a good distance, until the time when you would head toward the road for the King estate.
And then, he turned down that same road. This was really bizarre, there really wasn't any reason the head down this particular road unless he was headed to the estate too...
You had to know what this was about, it was eating at you too much. Your walk turned to a jog as you approached the guy on the sidewalk. He must've heard your footsteps, because he turned around to look at you. He didn't seem that surprised to see you, which in turn surprised you.
"Are you going to the King estate?" you asked bluntly.
The guy nodded. "Yeah, uh. You too? What a coincidence. I'm like... like one of Emilia's bodyguards."
You squinted at the guy, studying his face a little as he faced forward again, avoiding eye contact. What a strange answer, for which you had no proof except for his muscular physique and his exceptional bodyguarding skills. Okay, maybe it was a decent answer.
"You weren't following me or anything earlier, were you?"
The guy blinked, and looked back at you. "No, of course not. I live in that part of town, this is all just a big coincidence. But I wasn't going to walk on by and let those other guys do anything that might hurt you, I... can imagine how uncomfortable it is to be in that position. And again, I didn't do it because I didn't think you couldn't handle it, just that I think we should help others when we can."
This guy's good. "Hence, why you became a bodyguard."
"Yeah, I know, right? Perfect fit!" The guy beamed, and stuck his hands in his pockets while you two traveled side by side up the path to Emilia's front door. The gates had automatically parted when you approached, you assumed someone buzzed you--or more likely your mystery man--in. "I mean, I'll be honest, the punching part is kind of fun too. Some people need the occasional knock to the face so they knock it off. It would be great if they didn't, but that's up to people to know when they've gone too far."
You nodded a little, as you walked up the steps. "Sounds like something my friend might say. You'd probably like her."
"Oh, if she's got insights about punching people then I like her already."
You laughed a little, glancing at the guy once more before the door to the estate opened before you, a straight-faced Alice looking at the two of you. "Welcome back."
Is Emilia around?

Coinbearers
A magic coin can grant you mastery of a talent--but every flip puts your gender in peril...
A collector of ancient artifacts discovers a box of strange coins in her storeroom. When given to a person who wishes to excel at a certain skill or talent, they can charge the coin with magic by flipping it. The more charges, the stronger the magic becomes, and the more talented the coin's owner becomes at their chosen craft. The owner of such a coin tied to their talent is known as a Coinbearer. However, the catch of this magic is that the Coinbearer could be gender-swapped, depending on the result of the coin toss. And if they don't keep flipping as time goes on, this charged talent magic will slowly drain away over a week... until all the talent is gone completely.
