You ask the boys about themselves

You look at Jason.

Jessica : "Oh, so your birthday is coming up soon then? What's your specialty birthday boy?"

Jason blushes at this and you decide you think he's actually pretty cute.

Jason : "I'm a flora and telekinesis Sorcerer"

He says proudly as he approaches you, a flower sprouts in his hand and he places it in your hair. Yeah, cute, definitely cute.

Jessica : "I take it flora magic lets you make plants and I've seen telekinesis magic before."

They didn't need to know what telekinesis magic was being used for when you first saw it.

Jason : "that's right, all plants, it's more useful than you might think."

Jessica : "How about you Plano, what are you besides an elementalist?"

Plano : "Elements and beasts"

Jessica : "Oh, can you pull a rabbit out of a hat?"

Plano : "If there was a rabbit in a hat I could definitely command it to come out. But no, I can't generate beasts like Jason can plants, animal life is a little more complicated than flowers. But I can strengthen and direct animals nearly as if they were extensions of my body."

Jessica : "I grew up working on a farm, I know how useful that can be."

Plano : "I appreciate your appreciation, a lot of people who grew up in cities don't know the power of a strong beast of burden, especially if a master beast specialist can multiply its strength by ten and direct it well. Jason's telekinesis is handy for fine work, but if you want to move large amounts of heavy things long distances you want a Beast master commanding a herd."

Plano seems a little prideful but not in an arrogant manor. You remember from earlier that he was the one most into Geri ball and suspected he was a competitive sort.

Jessica : "How about you Astin?"

Astin : "My common school is charms although it's actually a pretty useful one to have, especially when working outside the magical world. My uncommon one is barrier magic."

Jessica : "I've met a charm master, Mr. Banson. Sounds like you'll work closely with him, he seems nice. What is barrier magic?"

Astin : "It's almost exactly what it sounds like except a little more involved than you might expect. Barrier casters can hold back material and also magic. Everyone learns a little barrier magic to protect themselves from things like an elementalist just blasting them with lightning but a master is able to prevent casters in a large area from accessing their magic."

Jessica : "So if there was ever a battle between two groups of casters and one had a barrier sorcerer..."

Jason : "Yeah, it's crazy unfair"

He said that half jokingly and half seriously. You had originally thought the different specialties were relatively balanced in their strengths and weaknesses but there did seem to be some that were a little better than others.

Jessica : "So that's the three of you, what's Peroh's deal?"

The three boys looked a little sheepish, Peroh definitely stuck out among them.

Jason : "Peroh is healing and divination magic. He's a nice kid but... really shy, especially around women."

You felt sympathy for the boy, you had lived most of your life a bit of a shy outcast and were glad these three were keeping him around.

Jessica : "Healing magic is pretty self explanatory, what's divination magic?"

Astin : "It's another one of those rare ones. He can, vaguely, make predictions about the future. You ever hear in stories how there was a prophecy this or prophecy that? Diviners are the source of those prophecies."

You couldn't tell if that would be useful or not but the sun was getting lower in the sky and the warmth was fading leaving you just cold in the water.
