You ask more questions

"But, Doc. It just seems so natural," your mom explained.

"Yes. Of course, Ms Kenning. That would be part of the natural reconnection of synapses and neural pathways from the original. We implanted some of those to, ..., ah."

Longdraft nudged Dr. Kerry and gave him a sour look before telling you, "Technical details. No need to worry about them. Please just sign, young man."

"You implanted what?"

"Well," the doctor started checking for a reaction from Longdraft who sighed and held up his hands. "You see, to, ah, help make sure the body doesn't reject the new brain, some of the, ah, original brain was put in. It's a common practice with transplants."

"All standard just like these forms," Longdraft added quickly moving your hand with the pen to the beginning of the signature line.

"But she said that she's getting or doing things she didn't know?"

"Well, yes, Tim. Kind of like a computer program or game works. You know, like, um, when you open a door on another level and take in the, ah, knowledge there. You understand that right?"

"I guess."

"Good. That's settled. Now just write your name."

"So she'll start to become more like, ah, ..?"

You waved your hand and pen towards your mother meaning her body or the person that it was. Longdraft chased the pen like an escaping butterfly trying to get it back in the jar.

She was smiling at you and moving her head side-to-side as if hearing some music - something your mother never did. She had always been rather reserved, usually calm with serious eyes. Now she was energetic, radiating a different aurora and some mannerisms. You hadn't noticed before because it was such a different body, you just assumed that was it. You started to have second thoughts especially about what would happen.

"Um, well, Tim, some for sure, but we don't expect too much. However, since she really is the first successful transplant, we can't predict how much."

"Oh, Tim, sweetie. It'll always be me here. Don't worry so."

"Yes, exactly," Longdraft encourages with a bit of cheerfulness. "If you just sign, ..."

"Besides, Tim, this will give us a chance to do more things together like we always talked about. Those things I haven't had time before and with that bum knee."

That brings back memories of how when you were little, you and your mom would go on picnics and hike, swimming down at the lake, mini-golf, movies, and more. You were really close, good friends, and she always talked about getting out again, even suggesting a road trip when you graduate leaving your dad with Tab and David.

"Everyone will have to adjust and be flexible, Tim," the doctor instructed. "We will always be here to help. In fact, we require routine check-ins so we can monitor progress."

"It will be so much fun, Tim, getting to know you and all."

You mom made Morgan's face smile so reassuringly that you felt a warm glow inside you and smiled back even though you were concerned with what she just said. There were many more questions, but obviously they couldn't all be answered just yet. This was going to take time to adjust, so it wasn't going to happen today or overnight or probably even next week or next month. At least your mom was still alive even if in some college hottie's body. She was bound to act different than you expect.

"Sign?"
