Chapter 15 by Phreakinsane

The guard takes you to see the quarter master.

You arrive at the armory.

The guard who led you here was a man of few words. You never even found out his name. After what seemed like hours but was likely only several minutes, he had finally finished guiding you through all of the many different turns, hallways and even several flights of stairs required to get you to the destination to which you had been summoned.

The guard knocked on a sturdy looking wooden door and quickly the door opens and you are met by the beautiful redhead you met earlier, Aera. "A-aera, what a nice surprise! Are you the one who called for me?" Your cheeks slightly reddened in surprise and embarrassment, knowing it's obvious you were caught off guard.

"Hmm?" Aera asked as she turned around from looking over a shelf, "Oh!....John, right?"

"Yes that's correct." You replied, as your cheeks grew a slightly deeper shade of red.

"Good. Thank you for coming. I needed your help in categoruzing your blade. I'm doing some inventory." Aera replied as she carefully reviewed some ancient- looking parchment. "If you wouldn't mind."

"Of course," You said as you walked over to her and began looking over the shelves of equipment, "Well, seems that the guards are well equipped here."

"We would if we had more guards, right now half of this isn't even being used." She said with a small shake of her head,

"Really? I see why Tarim is looking for soldiers to join his forces." You said with a nod.

"Yes, out military was pushed aside. We focused on economics and such but as soon as we heard that Alto attacked, well let's just say King Tarim put recruitment and training into full swing." Aera said as she marked down another thing on the notebook, "John, I'm sorry you did have some questions didn't you?"

"Yes I did." You replied with a nod, "Really, when Tarim told me that the training I had was uncommon here I wanted to understand exactly what training you all did have."

"Oh, yes of course. I understand that may seem odd but King Tarim detested using fear and strong arm tactics. Ever since his father died he focused on improving the city economically and culturally.

"Due to that we didn't really keep up with the advances in military technology. Now he's scared that Alto will crush us, so when someone like you shows up with training and weaponry we've only heard of, it gets us interested." Aera explained.

Over the next couple hours Aera explained her training, standard sword and shield, as well as the overall state of the city's guard. The city having sent all but a hundred guards to defend the borders had been busy with criminals trying to take advantage of the situation.

You explained that your sword was a class of its own. The "hand and a half" sword was neither strictly a one handed weapon nor a two handed weapon, and could be used either way interchangeably.

Aera is clearly very impressed and confesses that her master blade smiths had already been here and taken the necessary measurements required to replicate the unique design.

She also expressed that she would be interested in training with you, to see what tactics she must learn to face. As you two finished cataloging Aera turned to you with a smile,

"So John, what do say about a little training? That is if you are willing to sacrifice the rest of your day."
