Chapter 4 by Trom1806 Trom1806

Subsequent events are important for your destiny. Where are you going to go?

You are considering the situation. You decide to leave the city of Skelweerd...

You are walking along the city streets at night. Sad thoughts consume your mind. You understand that you don't need to rely on anyone for help. Especially, you don’t need to think that the local city guard will help you with anything. As practice has shown, the city guards will most likely just want to let you suck their dicks. In the literal sense of the word and in the metaphorical sense of the word...

You decide to analyze the situation and exercise utmost caution. You think about your situation based on the rule “assume the worst so that problems do not take you by surprise.”

So the tavern burned down. You have financial problems and problems finding a place to live...

Option one: this happened due to a fire that was caused by some incomprehensible tragic accident.

Option two: this happened due to the malicious intent of some mysterious and dangerous personality. The second option is supported by the fact that you saw some arrowheads that were in some of the burning beams of the building.

You understand that the second option is much more likely and dangerous for you. You can assume that the tavern arson occurred because the owner of the tavern owed a large amount of money to local bandits and was unable to repay his debt on time. Or the reason for the arson could be that some maniac among the local human residents hates everyone who is not human so much that this maniac began to kill. And arson became one of the methods of this maniac.

You feel fear for your future.

You want to protect yourself. And you understand that for this you will have to leave this city. After all, if your assumption is correct and the tavern was set on fire by an attacker... Then this attacker who set the tavern on fire may want to kill you too.

You wanted to go to the ashes of the tavern to look for something useful, but now you turn away. You understand that there is a possibility that someone very dangerous is watching you.

You can't help but let out a pitiful sob.

You are walking away from the city exit.

You mentally reassure yourself: “It’s okay, Jerome! Don’t cry like a girl! You will leave this city. You just have to wait until the right moment comes. And you also need to somehow get rid of the attention of someone who might be watching you.”

It's night now. You feel the cold more and more. You see a stable near one of the inns. In this stable you see large mountains of hay that are taller than a man. These mountains of hay are inside the stables near the far wall. You see that the door to this stable is now open.

You look around and you see that some short man, who is probably a stableman (you understand this because of the special appearance of his clothes and the “special” aroma that comes from this man), is standing not far from the open door to the stable and swearing with some drunkard. The stableman's attention is now diverted. And you take advantage of it.

You quickly walk into the stable with a quiet step and you climb inside these mountains of hay. You pile armfuls of hay on your body so that your body is invisible to an outside observer.

Having done this you fall asleep...

What awaits you the day after a tragic fire?
