You accept.

You finish your drink, and hold out a gloved hand to the woman before you.

"That sounds acceptable. I'm Vithe."

She beams back at you and eagerly shakes your hand with both of hers.

"Great! I'm Daseil. We'll make a great team! Let's go then!"

In a flash, she's up on her feet, tugging you to the door by the hand. You're taken by surprise with the sudden motion, taking a glance back to the bottle left on the bar, before going along with it anyway. You're no alcoholic, and it served its purpose. Though you make a point to yank your hand back and walk out of the room with dignity, rather than be strung along by some energetic tiefling.

Back out in the street, she begins leading you through the cities roads towards the northern gate, talking at a rapid pace the whole time without giving you a chance to respond.

"Ok, so, the carriages position was being verified by magical messaging every day at noon; whatever's on the thing's a big deal for that kinda service. Yesterday, no verification, when a second message was sent to try and confirm, see if it was just a blip, no response. Means it disappeared somewhere between its fifth and sixth days of travel, which is a about day from here by courier horse. Know how to ride right? We're in rush mode right now, faster we get out there faster we can get this sorted, less time for the trail to cool."

The Tiefling pauses for a breath. You are about to say something when she starts talking again.

"Now the journey was being safeguarded by regular augury for plans to intercept it, which means that whatever's stopped it was probably not premeditated, unless it was being planned by something proof against divination. So it's likely that whatever did this won't have gone to ground yet, since they probably don't know what they have on their hands."

She turns to face you, walking backwards while ahead of you. You don't try to speak again, just raise an eyebrow and waiting for her to continue.

"Problem with that, is that it means we're probably dealing with some powerful stuff. Far as I know, that carriage wasn't exactly unguarded. Pretty much the opposite. Full adventuring party, and we both know the sort of crazy lengths they'll go to do their job."

Finishing her piece, she turns back to the gate as you approach, and hustles away towards one of the stables. You take a moment to process what she's said. Divination safeguarding? Magical check-ins? Whoever sent this thing must be extremely wealthy to secure those kinds of services. The fact that they've come to freelancing adventurers rather than the town guard or military probably means that whatever was being transported is something they wouldn't take kindly to finding.

Despite your reservations, you can't help but feel excited at the prospect of getting back out on the road.
