Chapter 7 by Decadent Empire Decadent Empire

Who is your team?

You, Jeremy, and Allen

You decide to keep this team small and choose more mature men, thinking that they would be more reliable if something went down. Jeremy is already viewed by people as a leader, and he is in pretty decent shape, which makes him an obvious choice. You already see yourself leaning on him as your right-hand man. Knocking on the door to his apartment, his wife, Melissa answers the door.

She greets you with a smile. "Oh hey Michael. I mean Boss. What brings you over here?" Melissa was always friendly with you, despite your loner tendencies, which you always appreciated. You also appreciate her fit body. Before things went to shit, you would regulary spot her going on runs in her tight yoga pants. Her regular excercise kept her body in shape like a thirty year old, and you were always a little jealous of Jeremy having a wife was so fit and a pretty face to boot.

"I'm actually looking for your husband. Is he around?"

"Yeah he is in the bedroom." She turns around to yell into the house, "Jeremy, Michael is here to see you!"

"Coming!" is his reply. Jeremy emerges from the bedroom to approach you. "Hey there Boss. What's going on?"

"Well, I just had a talk with Walter and he is confident that he can get the old generator back up and running, giving us electricity and running water."

"That's great news!" Melissa exclaims. Her husband is not so optimistic.

"So what's the catch?"

"The catch is we need fuel. And to get fuel, we need to go outside." Melissas's smile fades.

"Ah." The two of them are silent for a while before Jeremy speaks again. "And I'm guessing that you want me to go out there, Boss?"

"You guessed right. The Chevron should have what we need. As long as we are quick and don't draw any unnecessary attention to ourselves, we should be able to get a few months worth of fuel and get out before anyone notices."

At this point, Melissa's smile is now a frown. "Isn't there anyone else that could go instead? I don't want my husband to go out there. It's dangerous."

"If it's dangerous for me, it'll be dangerous for someone else, too. Nobody's life is worth more than mine." You can see why the other tenants look to him for leadership. "Besides, someone has to keep the Boss safe." Melissa lets out a choked laugh.

She puts her hand on your shoulder. "You keep him safe, too."

"I will."

"When do we leave?" Jeremy asks.

"As soon as we can. We don't want to waste too much daylight and get caught in the dark when the zombies are the most active." Jeremy nods and grabs a backpack with some basic supplies and a pistol. He holds his wife and kisses her goodbye. She looks like she wants to say something, but holds back. He closes the door behind him. "I suppose we should get going then. Unless there is anyone else coming along.

"Actually, I was wondering what you were thinking. The people here look up to you, and you know them a lot better than I do. Who do you think will make a good third."

Jeremy thinks for a moment. "How about Allen? He is dependable and built like a truck." You vaguely recall him from your arm signing session. Allen is a large black guy, and you ha e to agree, he is built like a truck. You definitely took notice of how muscular his arm was whe you were putting your name on it.

"Good choice. Let's go get him. Do you know where he lives?" Jeremy nods. "Lead the way." He leads you down two flights of stairs to the floor that Allen lived on with his wife.

Jeremy walks up to a door and knocks. Allen answers. "Hey Allen. The Boss needs us." He steps aside for you to talk. You briefly explain the situation to him.

When you're done, he simply nods and says, "You got it Boss. Just need to grab my stuff and say bye to Jade." Now Jade you remember much better than her husband. Around the same age as him, somewhere in their thirties, her ass alone made her memorable. She mentioned offhand that she used to be a backup dancer for various rappers before settling down with Allen and it shows. Her face isn't too bad either. After a few minutes, he comes out with a shotgun, his pack, and a fire axe. You make your way downstairs where Zachary is on guard at the front desk.

You're about to head out the door with your two companions when you hear a female voice shout, "Wait!" All four of you turn around, surprised, to see Amelia running towards you guys with a backpack on. She is wearing sensible outdoor clothes that partially conceal the bombshell body she has underneath. She was the head cheerleader and prom queen in high school and it shows, even with her brown hair done up in a ponytail. You know she married her husband, Nicholas, more out of his financial stability than love. When she gets close enough, she speaks to you. "Can I come with? I'm bored out of my mind being cooped up in here and I want to make myself useful." That is even more shocking. You never figured her for the type to risk her life for the good of the group. By the look on Jeremy's face, he didn't either. To be honest, you figured her role in your little community to be much more in bed rather than outside.

Jeremy speaks up first, pointing at the rifle in her hands, "Do you know how to use that?"

"Probably better than any of you. My dad was a cop and he took me to the range all the time," she says a bit haughtily. Jeremy looks at you, then at Allen, who just shrugs.

Do you let her tag along?
