Chapter 6 by Vain Vain

What should you do then? Try to give chase, or stop and see what you've caught...?

You're to give up the chase, and return to the ones that have already fallen

Of course you hate to admit that your intended prey has managed to flee your grasp, especially as the juicy young cleric is still among them, but after a short chase down the corridor you're **** to give up as it feels like you're running through water every time you're getting remotely close to them. So you finally stop and roar in frustration as your target has reached the far end of the long corridor, which makes them run even faster into the darkness outside your master's castle, and then you grumble to yourself while you slowly head back to where the fighting took place.

A few goblins have already started to move in on the two fallen warriors, but you scare them away with your mere presence before they are able to steal anything of value. At first you're heading for the dwarf, as you figure he'll make for the most satisfying meal, but on your way there you notice the other one is still somehow able to move. You thought that your mighty blow to her chest would have killed her outright, but then again she's wearing some excellent armor, and your attack was also blunted by the cleric's barrier. It most certainly must have knocked the air out of her lungs though, and probably knocked her **** for a couple of moments, so that she's still not been able to stand since you left her for dead.

The good news are that you've now got something to play with, instead of simply comforting yourself with a tasty meal, though you soon come to realize that you'll have to find a way to break into that heavy suit of armor, without accidentally ripping apart the frail human being of flesh and bones inside. If she was already dead it wouldn't have been so much of a problem, but now you're suddenly curious of what could be hiding underneath that suit of steel.

That said you decide to start with the helmet, as it seems at first like the easiest part to remove, but you soon find out that it's pretty much stuck on her head as well as the rest of her suit encases her body. Apparently there's some kind of straps to keep it in place under her chin, which you can't undo with your clumsy fingers, but it seems like you're in luck as the thing comes off with a sudden snap, just when you're about to lose your patience and instead start slamming the human's head into the nearby wall.

You weren't expecting too much of somebody hiding in such an all-compassing set of armor, and as such you're somewhat surprised by the feminine features of the pale visage you find underneath the practical helmet. Normally you wouldn't care much for human beauty, but in this case you must admit there's a certain appeal to the short, curly red hair, which makes for an interesting contrast to the woman's alabaster white skin. There may be some traces of freckles around her sleek nose, but you'd hardly think that even her own kind would find it disturbing in any way. In short you can easily tell that she's quite the beauty, even if you're not a connoisseur on the subject, and you can also guess that she's much younger than her expertise at fighting and decorated armor would suggest.

You notice that her soft lips are turning blue however, and as you look down to the heavy dent you've made in her chest plate you're not surprised that she can barely breathe with all that pressure on her lungs. In fact you're quite impressed that she's alive at all, though you contribute some of the reason to the fact she's fairly slender in comparison to the amount of armor, and there's a lot of room for padding that must have saved her from the worst of the **** in your attack.

She's still just barely conscious though, and she won't survive for long if you can't get her out of that metal ****-trap, so you goad her fingers to help with your fumbling attempts to remove the buckles which keeps the whole thing together at her sides. Finally you manage to break it open, through a mix of luck, skill, and brute strength, which leaves most part of her female body exposed to the cold air. From there it doesn't take long to figure how to strip her out of the rest as well, and you watch her slowly regaining her consciousness while you run your fingers over the cloth and practical bodice she's wearing underneath the armor to protect her skin from the cold and uncomfortable suit of steel.

"Unnnh...?" She groans a little when she opens her eyes, which you notice are pale and green like frosted grass, even though you're not really sure how you're able to make that metaphor. You've never seen the frozen plains of her homeland at the very first days of winter, but you're still pretty certain that it's the first thing her countrymen from the north would think of when they look in her eyes. Confusing images aside you're quick to notice that she's not very happy to see you staring back at her, and you watch those wide green eyes snap open in surprise, then fear, and finally cold fury when she tries to recollect the reason to why she's been stripped of her sword, shield and armor, while facing a large and nasty-looking ogre like yourself...

So what's the first thing you do, if she's not even faster to get to the point...?
