Chapter 16 by Pandemos Pandemos

What did I say?

Yes

“Consider it done,” I said.

Shield in hand, I went down into the sleeping quarters. Following Eorlund’s directions, I came upon Aela’s open door. I walked in, and stared right into Aela’s ecstatic eyes. Her war-painted face contorted in pleasure as she was continuously rocked with the unmistakable slapping sound of vigorous lovemaking. I stood frozen in a mix of shock and curiosity, embarrassed at her lack of embarrassment as Skjor, tightly holding her by the waist, took her. There was no other way to describe it. He was taking her, like a savage animal taking its mate. Both of them saw me standing in the door opening, neither of them making any attempt at covering their naked bodies, or even ceasing their activity.

“I uh-“ I stuttered, “I brought your shield.”

"Ah- just- ah fuck-“ Aela moaned. “Just leave it there.”

Her hands grabbed the furs on her bed, and let out a squeal.

“I’ll just leave then,” I said, setting the shield against the leg of a table.

“If you-“ she groaned deeply. “If you wish.”

She moaned deeply as Skjor slapped her across her behind.

“Thanks for the- ahh- thanks for the shield.”

I left flustered, and likely red as a beet. The display had left me shaking. It wasn’t that I had never seen anyone else make love or anything. Damn, I’ll even admit I’ve walked in on Klija and her lover before, laughing about it, and teasing her with it for weeks after. These two however, seemed completely unbothered with the unexpected audience. Involuntarily, I imagined Aela’s face between my legs as Carlotta’s had been, while Skjor repeatedly slammed her into me.

“If you wish,” Aela had said. Did she mean I could’ve stayed? That I could’ve watched if I wanted? That I…

I didn’t dare finish that thought, and I couldn’t have, as I literally ran into Farkas.

“You alright?” He asked, as I apologized profusely.

“Yeah,” I said. “Just a bit lost.”

“Lost?” He grinned. “In here?”

“Yeah, just…” I scrambled, looking for something to say as the image of Aela getting thoroughly fucked floated before my mind’s eye. “Where do I sleep?”

“Oh, of course,” he said. “Follow me.”

He led me through the long hallway.

“Nice to have a new face around, it can get boring around here.”

I doubted that, with what I’d just experienced.

“I hope we keep you,” he said, as he opened a door. “This can be a rough life. Quarters are here. If you’re tired, just pick a bed and fall in it. Tilma will keep the place clean, she always has.”

I stepped in. The large room had the same arched roof as the rest of this floor, but it was filled with rows of beds. It seems that these companions were equally unconcerned with privacy. Some of them were sitting on the beds, talking and laughing, but when they noticed us two entering, they broke off their conversation and stared in interest.

"All right, so here you are,” Farkas said. “Looks like the others are eager to meet you. Come to me or Aela if you're looking for work. Once you've made a bit of a name for yourself, Skjor and Vilkas might have things for you to do. Good luck. Welcome to the Companions."

After Farkas left, one of the companions stepped forward.

"I haven't seen you before. Have I? Name’s Torvar. Have we met? I'm sorry if I've forgotten."

I could smell the mead on the red-faced Nord’s breath.

“Ylsi,” I said.

"The latest recruit! Right? Wait, is that right?"

“Yes,” I said, and I saw the other two — the Dunmer and Nord who were fighting earlier — leering at me. “Nice to meet you, Torvar.

“We heard you helped kill a giant,” the woman said. “And that you let Ria get beat up.”

“I think I’d be dead if it wasn’t for her,” a voice said. I turned and saw that Ria had entered the room. The Imperial dropped onto a bed and sighed.

“If you were a true companion, you wouldn’t have put yourself in that position at all,” the Dunmer said.

“I don’t know about that,” I said. “But I sure as Oblivion haven’t seen you fight a giant yet.”

That shut them up, though it summoned some scowls, and they turned back to their conversations.

“Thanks,” Ria said. “They give us a hard time because we’re new. I was the newest companion, until you came along. I guess that's ok. Just means I can show you the ropes!"

“I guess you’re right,” I said. “How are you feeling?”

“Much better,” she said. “Thanks again for your help with the giant. Aela gave me a tough scolding when I came to, told me I need to do better if I want to stay a companion.”

“Yeah, she’s a tough one,” I said, and again I saw her getting spanked by Skjor, which was a hard thing to reconcile with the image of her chiding Ria. “I uh…” I said, lowering my voice, “I spoke to her earlier, and she was eh… you know, doing… stuff with Skjor.”

“Having sex, you mean?” Ria didn’t even blink.

“Uh yeah,” I stuttered.

“So? Oh shit, I forget you just got here.” She giggled. “Yeah that’s eh… listen, you’ll get used to it. The companions, they live life like they’re already dead.”

I frowned. I didn’t see how that lined up with Aela’s exhibitionism.

“Well, what that means, is that we live like the dead in Sovngarde. That’s where the greatest warriors reside until the end of the world, when they’ll be rallied by Shor for a great battle to usher in the new world. It’s said that the Hall of Valor is a place of eternal battle, drinking and uh… love-making.”

“So you do the same?”

Ria blushed. “I mean, the drinking and fighting, yes. I haven’t had the courage to fully commit to that last part yet. But no one forces you to do anything here, it’s just that we’re a lot more free to follow our desires, we’re companions after all, not an army.”

“Right,” I said. “So, Farkas told me he’d have work for me, got any advice?”

“Start with the small ones,” she laughed. “Don’t want to get sent to the Temple of Kynareth on your first job. If you’re not sure you can handle it, get shield-brother, or sister…”

She looked away after saying that, seemingly embarrassed.

“Would you be my shield-sister?” I asked.

Her face lit up. “I’d love that.

What kind of job did we take?
