Chapter 11
by Cgannman
Is charmander able to get up?
Yes
Slowly charmander gets back up, rising from his knee. He lets out a small tiny puff of smoke from his mouth, and then charges straight for caterpie. Taking it off guard from the sudden rush, caterpie attempted to leap out of the way, only to be smacked back down to the ground by charmanders extended claws.
"Quick caterpie, use string shot on the tree to pull yourself out of there!" The trainer finally started to look worried as charmander had managed to deal some actual damage to his pokemon. The caterpie looked up and shot a string shot at a low lying limb. Just as soon as he started pulling himself up, charmander was there breathing embers on the gossamer strand causing it to shrivel and snap under the weight of caterpie. Caterpie fell and landed on his back. Now squirming trying to right himself.
"Charmander! Finish it off with ember!" I yelled hoping I was right. This was definitly a strong caterpie compared to the other wild caterpies I had been able to practically one hit.
Charmander was now breathing embers all over caterpie's underbelly, where the soft stickers of his feet were. Caterpie shrieked then fell silent and limp.
"Caterpie return!" The trainer said now holding out a pokeball, sucking inside the now fainted caterpie.
"You are just lucky you had the type advantage. Otherwise you never would have won. Basically you cheated!" The young man was now practically shouting and clearly had never lost a pokemon battle before.
"Hey asshole, we fought fair and square. Maybe if you had spent less time yelling at random trainers and more time training your pokemon you wouldn't have lost. Also, for the record, your caterpie was the strongest and most challenging caterpie me and charmander have ever fought. I was going to congratulate you on such a close match, but instead all I have for you is this." Now flipping him off with my middle finger, I realized I could demand my victory prize money.
"Hey asshole, pay up. You lost and I won. Pokemon league rules say the winner gets a victory prize. Unless you want me to report you to the gym leader in viridian city. I'm sure he would love to hear about you." I held out my hand expecting to get some cash from the brat.
"Uh fine, here. Now move. I gotta go get my little catterpie healed up at the stupid pokenon center." He left but not before slapping $100 on my outstretched hand.
"Nice work charmander. Let's get some lunch and take a rest. And charmander? Thank you for giving it your all. You were awesome out there." I flashed him a big smile as I broke out some protein bars and poured a little bit of pokefood into his collapsible bowl. As I set it down in front of him I gave him a kiss on his cheek. He smiled up at me and wagged his tail fiercly back and forth.
"If you set anything on fire you'll be sorry." I scolded him in a mocking voice, so he knew I wasn't serious.
We spent about an hour just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful day. The pidgey were chirping and there was the occasional butterfree that could be seen in the higher branches of the trees.
"Sure can't beat this charmander right? Moments like this when you can relax after a hard fought win." I rubbed his head as though I was ruffling imaginary hair. I could swear he almost purred. I laughed and then slowly got to my feet.
"Come on let's get a move on. I don't exactly want to spend a night in viridian forest, tempting as that may be to break out the tent."
Me and charmander left the clearing. I returned him to his pokeball and set out again. Battling the occasional caterpie or weedle. I could swear charmander was a little more aggressive with the caterpies than with the weedles. I couldn't exactly blame him though. He did take a beating from a caterpie.
Suddenly I could see something red a few feet ahead of me in the grass. Walking slowly forward with my hand on Charmander's pokeball, I got closer to see what it was. I couldn't help but laugh now when I saw it was just a pokeball laying in the grass.
"Some trainer must have dropped this. I sure hope its empty." I try pressing the button and pointing, to see if there was anything inside. I was slightly relieved when nothing popped out. I twisted and slipped the empty pokeball in the side pocket of my backpack, along with the other pokeballs I had.
Walking forward I saw someone up ahead in the shorter grass looking around. Probably for some trainer to challenge. I could just walk forward and challenge them, or do I try to find a way around.
Do you challenge the trainer first?
