“I used to have a gaming group, but it sort of fell apart when my friend Mark moved to California. So it’s been a few years.”

Steve, the DM, asks, “Okay, sounds reasonable, but I have a few questions. Favorite game other than dungeons and dragons?”

“Oh, definitely Shadowrun, I played a cool punk rock chic named Nina. She was a street mage with pink hair, from Russia, and was trained in a secret government agency of hot female spy’s and assassins.”

Bobby smiles, “So magic black widow?”

Your shoulders slump slightly, “Not exactly.”

Steve takes control again, “Hey Bobby, how many times have you made not Wolverine? I thought so. Okay, Alex, next question. Longest played character, any system.”

“Actually that would be Celeste Dubois, a French singer trying to break into the American music scene in Call of Cthulhu. She was so cool, the gm set it in the early 1980’s, so like basically modern day but no cell phones. Her style was totally punk and we said she had encountered a MiGo and my gm let me start with this cool little ray gun. It was basically a more pulp version of Cthulhu, where we actually fought against the monsters after figuring out what they were and their weakness. It was like we were in all the cheesy 70’s and 80’s monster action movies. Sounds kinda lame I guess, but it was really fun.”

They all laugh. Vanessa smiling says, “I’d say that’s enough Steve. We clearly have a game nerd here. Nobody on the spot makes that kinda shit up.”

Steve holds up his hands, “Fine, fine, ya, I agree. All right then Alex. The party is level 5. We have a warlock, paladin, rogue, and cleric. Any character ideas? If you are up to it you could create your character and watch us play, then if you get done real quick we could meet you, or I can write you into the story and meet next week.”

“Ya that would be great.” You say.

Vanessa grabs a chair from the kitchen. “You can use some of my dice till you get a chance to go home and get yours. We have all the bases covered in our group so far, so you can make whatever you want, basically. Hmm, another front line wouldn’t hurt, that said we all suck in nature.”

Steve pulls a pair of card stock character sheets out of his bag, holds them out and asks, “Green or pink?”

“Pink.” Vanessa grabs it for you and is hovering behind you as you settle in. She gets you 4d6, a pencil, eraser, and her tablet open to a pdf of the main book. She pulls her chair close and holds the tablet. “You roll and tell me what you are doing and I will look it up for you.”

Bobby asks, “So who do you want to be?”
