Chapter 13 by mjor144 mjor144

Time to die, right?

Yes, someone dies

The Nightmare began running forward, Mark had his back to the ship, looking ready to take a hit. The monster took a massive swing and was ready to tear the human apart in half, when Mark suddenly released himself from the mech, dropping to the ground, landing on all fours.

“This is how Mark Veers wants to die. Pathetic.”

He raised his head.

“No, this is where you die.”

Mark used the last card in his sleeve, the final bullet in his proverbial chamber. The weapon he grabbed earlier from the guards which was responding to him, he extended it towards the beast and touched where it's knee supposed to be.

"Aaeeerghh."

The Nightmare screamed in pain, paralyzed by the weapon, the smoke was coming out of the place where it was getting scorched. It couldn't have bought much time, but it was just enough.

"Mark, drop!"

The human rolled to the side as soon as he heard a clicking sound behind him, and dropped on the ground when gun behind him opened fire and the bullets began flying above him.

“Die, you fuck!”

He finally heard Kaliasi’s voice through the speakers as the gun was spitting bullets, most of them hitting the nightmare and exploding on the surface of it’s flesh. It raised it’s arms, trying to protect itself from the unleashed hell, but it was being ripped to pieces, the flesh melting, the bones shattering, flying in all directions. It’s claws dropped down, detached from it’s body as Kaliasi kept firing. The Nightmare was on it’s knees, massacred, scorched, destroyed. It finally fell down.

And died.

The Alearan woman kept shooting for half a minute more, massacring the monsters body even more, before she decided to finally stop. She got out of the ship quickly and approached Veers who was still lying on the ground.

“Hey, you alive? Mark?”

“Whaaat?!”

He shouted in response, still completely stunned by the minute long salve from a gun that could as well be a cannon on Earth.

“One moment, hold still.” She said, when approaching and extending some sort of needle from one of her fingers, when Mark was standing up, barely having any strength left.

“Whaaat?!”

Without any questions, she stabbed him in the neck, close to his ear and then retreated the needle.

“What the fuck, Kaliasi, what was that?” He asked, finally being able to hear properly again.

“Can you hear me now?”

“Well, yeah, but like-”

“-no buts. You can thank me now.”

Mark looked at the fallen Nightmare.

“For what? Stabbing me?”

“No, you idiot. For killing this thing.”

“You maybe shot it, but I did all the heavy lifting!” He retorted.

“What heavy lifting? You barely slowed it down!”

Mark leaned against the ship’s front.

“Well, yeah, I could’ve died like fifty times during that.”

“I saw, it was hilarious how you tried to fight it.” She laughed in response. Mark, not even knowing why, joined her, and instead of continuing the argument, they began laughing at what just happened. "Not going to lie, it was kinda sexy, in like a brutish, primal way."

“Fuck… I could’ve died. So now… Can you explain what that thing was?” He asked, expecting to finally get an answer.

“Ummm…”

“Just spit it out.”

She walked towards the Nightmare and put her hand in front. A blue light came out, scanning the thing. After that, she kneeled and extended one of her finger needles towards it.

“Long story short - this is the reason why I got caught. I tried to smuggle it for a lot of money, and it turned out that war beasts like that are highly usanitary. And illegal.” She got up and turned around.

“Hold up, just a second. Where did you get it? And who wanted it?” Mark crossed his arms on his chest.

“I got it from some devastated planet like a dozen solar systems away. It was in a coma, so catching it wasn’t a problem.” She shrugged.

“And the other part of my question?”

“Uhh, some asshole on Cirrus wanted it. Look, he paid good money so I agreed and almost managed to make it.”

Veers scratched his head.

“And Cirrus is…”

“Oh my holy big-giant head, it’s a planet. Somehow I forgot that you are a damn primitive, but thanks to every second word that you say, you keep reminding me of that. Anyway, we should get away and figure out what to say to the client. I did grab the scan of this thing and a DNA sample, so hopefully that’s enough to get paid.”

“DNA sample? What for, for all we know that this thing should be burned to the ground, buried, forgotten.”

“Oh, stop whining.” She responded and walked to the entrance of the ship. “Need I remind you that we still didn’t run away and that we are fugitives? Which means we have to go. Now!”

To freedom?
