Chapter 44
by
Decadent Empire
Do you investigate?
Yes, carefully
"We need to know what caused all of this. But let's not be hasty about this. We stack against the wall and try to get a good idea of what you're up against before we enter." She nods. You and your team slowly make your way forward until you're at the mouth of the opening. Slowly, you creep up to peer into the darkness, the bright light of day making it hard to see into the unlit building.
A female voice shouts out in a British accent, "You better stop right there if you know what's good for you!" You pull back your head. This trip just got a whole lot more interesting.
"Don't shoot! We come in peace!" You yell back. You come around the corner with your hands up, slowly approaching the darkness, ready to dive for cover in a moment's notice. Your eyes begin to adjust to the darkness, and the silhouette of a crashed helicopter takes shape out of the darkness. As you get closer, you find the source of the female voice, presumably the pilot, pinned underneath the wreckage. "I'm not here to hurt you," you promise, even as you see the barrel of a pistol pointed right at your face.
She sighs and lowers her gun. "Doesn't matter anyways. Damn thing ran out of bullets a while ago." You motion your squad forward and they rapidly begin securing the area.
"What's your name?" you ask when you get close to her.
"Lieutenant Gable, at your service. And yours?"
"I'm Michael. What happened?" you ask her.
"I was trying to fly to somewhere a little safer when I lost my tail rotor. I crashed here, and the sound attracted a lot of unwanted attention." She takes a pointed look at the dead bodies, some of which even made it as far as getting inside before being killed. "I hear them getting into a firefight outside, at least a couple of groups of people and a swarm of the undead. Not many made it inside, but I still have the helicopter's gun, until I lost power completely. Then I had my sidearm, but that didn't last long. I thought I was done for, until things got quiet. I've been stuck here since then."
"I doubt it's going to stay quiet for much longer," you tell her. You take a good look at her predicament. It looks like she didn't suffer any major injuries in the crash, and she is just pinned there by the twisted metal of what used to be her helicopter. With the tools you have on hand, it won't be hard to get her out, it's just going to take time.
Do you attempt to rescue her?
