Chapter 6 by checker625 checker625

Does she go to the convention?

Yes, but she tries to keep it professional

Short chapter here. I wanted to write more, but this seems like a natural stopping point for the chapter. I've been struggling a little with how to proceed, but I think I have a good idea now.

"OK, girl. Head high. Confident. Own it."

Katie adjusted the sleeves of her white blazer as she gave her reflection the affirmation. She was standing in the bathroom of her hotel room, and had been since she returned from the gym an hour prior. It was the first day of the convention and she wanted to make sure she looked the part of a stylish woman in business. She didn't really know what to expect since Mr. Cowall had been so cagey about details, but she wanted to dress to impress. While her current outfit was a little more conservative that what she had been wearing in the office, she was still happy with how stylish she looked.

The aforementioned blazer was over top of a navy blue blouse, which was slightly unbuttoned to show just enough of her cleavage to tempt greedy eyes. She also wore some high-waisted navy slacks with a brown belt, and her comfiest pair of two-inch heels. She had originally wanted to wear some of her higher heels, but she didn't know how long she'd be on her feet and walking around. The last thing she needed was a blister or burning calves on the first day of the convention.

Even though the outfit was decidedly more conservative than some of the others in her suitcase, Katie couldn't help but feel nervous about leaving her hotel room. It was still a completely different look from anything else she had previously worn in public. Would the other women at the convention be wearing more professionally acceptable clothing? Would she be doing her gender a disservice by emphasizing her curves?

She had to shake the negative thoughts from her head. Who cared what other women thought? She knew she looked good in the outfit, and that made her happy. She deserved to be happy. Besides, her outfit was absolutely still professional, it was just also cute! Secretly, she hoped her cleavage would draw a fair share of hidden glances. She pulled her blouse down further, allowing her pushup bra to properly press her breasts into the opening. It wasn't a scandalous amount of cleavage, but it made her happy nonetheless.

A knock on her hotel door hailed an end to her endless preening. It was now or never. With another deep breath, Katie left the bathroom and grabbed the two coffees she managed to make with the machine in her room between outfit changes. She reached for the door handle and opened it to find her boss in the hallway. He wasn't wearing anything different from his typical office attire, but Katie figured he didn't have a reason to change it up. His grey suit and burgandy tie draped over his slightly paunchy belly. There was no doubt that he spent significantly less time worrying about his appearance that morning than Katie did, yet he looked significantly disappointed when she opened the door and he saw her.

His icy eyes looked her up and down, lingering for a moment on her cleavage, but she could tell he was hoping for more. He had obviously grown used to her array of skirts and dresses, so a blazer and pants must have felt like a step back. Katie saw the look of disappointment on his face and felt her gut wrench. She hated disappointing her boss, but she just couldn't convince herself to wear anything less professional. Katie reached out to pass him the latte she made.

"That's what you're wearing?" Mr. Cowall asked, discontent dripped off every word. He grabbed the coffee from her, but didn't take a sip.

"It is," Katie replied weakly. She wanted to be firm. She wanted to show some backbone, but really she was just scared of being judged. Although the feeling she was getting from Mr. Cowall's scowl began to outweigh those fears. "Look, there's still four days after this, so four more outfits I can play with."

"No," Mr. Cowall firmly said and he began walking into the room, "This is the first day and its an important convention." Katie could tell he was perturbed, but he was trying to maintain his cool. "Don't you agree that you want to make a good first impression?"

Katie was shocked as he brushed past her. Trying to make a good impression was exactly what she was trying to do! She didn't want people thinking she was a floozy or a slut, no matter how much she enjoyed wearing fun outfits in the privacy of the office. "I-I-I am-" she stammered before her boss cut her off.

"Don't you agree that you'd make a better impression if you were happy?" He turned around to face her from the middle of her room. The intensity of his blue eyes burned through her like an icy fire, but Katie couldn't bare to return his gaze.

She hung her head in shame and embarrassment. Her mind was spinning and her heart raced. "Y-yea, and I'm happy and comfortable in-"

"Don't you agree that you're happiest wearing the sexy clothes I bought you?"

She nodded softly and a single tear fell down her cheek. He was right. Of course he was right. She couldn't be happy wearing this. It was so boring, even with the tantalizing cleavage. What had she been thinking?

Katie turned away and took a moment to compose herself. She stood up, breathed through her pulsing heart beat, and she wiped the tear from her cheek. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw her boss take a sip from his coffee while he waited for her to be ready. "You're right," she said without looking at him. Her boss was always right. "I'll choose something different."

"Good," said Mr. Cowall. He placed the full coffee cup on the desk. "I'm going to go get us good coffee. I expect you to be ready when I come back."

Katie smiled weakly and nodded at him, finally able to turn and face his intriguing blue eyes. Her face still felt uncomfortably flushed, but she could no longer feel the thumping in her chest. Mr. Cowall walked past her and opened the door.

"And throw out those pants," he said, "I don't ever want to see them again."

"Yes, sir," Katie replied without thinking. The door shut and Katie exhaled deeply. Her head whipped towards her suitcase. She didn't have time to waste.

What outfit does she choose
