Year 2069
The year is now 2069 - 31 years after Hope had been launched into deep space with 420 people onboard. The ship was autopiloted by some advanced A.I system as all 420 passengers were suspended in time by an even more advanced cryogenic system which meant that they were essentially asleep, not aging, awaiting the day that they reached their destination.
Hope was on it's voyage to a planet outside of Earth's solar system, a planet that Earth had given a really easy name that just rolls off the tongue, Planet EX-Ter4A-XA. The passengers had given the planet it's own unofficial name though, Haven.
Hope was now only 3 flight days away from the orbit of Haven and had started the process of awaking the 420 passengers onboard , starting with it's most key personnel. 12 of Cryopods sprang to life, slowly waking their inhabitants, one of which is Chief Engineer, Terry Osborne.
As he awoke from cryo-slumber and opened his eyes he immediately knew something wasn't quite right, through the glass of his pod he saw no lights, cryopod tetherlines hanging from the ceiling venting, the ship looked a mess.
He reached for the escape lever and pulled on it, forcing his pod open, stepping out on the debris covered floor wearing nothing but his thin cryosuit that helped keep him alive for the past 31 years. He knew he must follow protocol from training and meet the other 11 vital crew members on the bridge. It wasn't long before Captain Elise Gurdo ran onto the bridge looking panicked!
After a discussion that nobody should ever need to have it turns out that the ship had encountered a fault, this fault went back over a year it turned out after checking the logs. This event had lead to a catastrophic loss of life onboard. All that remained of the senior staff was Captain Elise Gurdo and Chief Engineer Terry Osborne. They ran some checks to see which other passengers had perished. The ships A.I system was ultimately in charge of which pods got resource priority.
Terry broke protocol to check the pod numbers of his wife and daughter first, as I'm sure any father would. The relief was overwhelming when he realised that Emma had survived, however another scroll down the page revealed that Gina, his wife had not, however now wasn't the time to get upset because for the sake of the survival of humanity, he had a job to do. After running the full report it turns out that only 8 passengers in total had survived.
Time to wake the survivors.
