Chapter 2 by senbonzakura

Where do you go to unwind?

World of the Living

You find that the marvels of the World of the Living are a great distraction to prevent you from falling from grace. After all, there is no one there worthy of your time here and it will indeed banish any thoughts you may have had reducing yourself in any fashion. Even if you do, there's no one to find out you went out of your way to be entertained by someone who would never know after the fact.

You always have a gigai prepared--captains don't get to visit often, but when they do, they're always required to have one ready. It also keeps you from going to someone like Urahara Kisuke and you can avoid ever seeing that insufferable woman.

Even after one hundred years, they're still thorns in your sides and it seems far more appropriate to simply avoid them, even if it is a chore since you have no idea what the modern world is like, where you can stay or if there's a place where you can sit and admire something beautiful about nature to still your restless spirit.

There are a few places, other than Urahara Shouten, that you know you can go to, but it's unlike you to ask for any help. You don't suppose you have much of a choice and it really isn't dignified to wander around aimlessly and lose yourself amongst all the people, places and concrete towers that plague your vision.

Maybe it wasn't the best of ideas to wander here, but it's far too late to think about what-ifs. The cars and the people carry strange odors with them, the foods blending in with each other don't make you hungry, and it seems like a lost cause even finding the Urahara Shouten if you wanted a place to at least lay your head as you avoid responsibilities. Still, you are persistent and refuse to back down, knowing that there is nothing that a man like you can't do.

After what seems like an hour of aimless wandering, knowing that Karakura Town cannot possibly be so big and that field over there looks far too familiar for it to be coincidence after the third time, you hear approaching footsteps and a voice call out to you.

"Hey --"

Who is calling you?
