Chapter 64 by amon_Baal amon_Baal

Steve Blinked…

Work right now but sounds like fun.

“We might need to talk about that, it sounds like it could be fun.” Steve agreed, “But right now Jan and I have to get to work.”

Kaya nodded, “Mina and I will clean up a little more.” She said as Jan got a Tupperware container out of the cupboard for the breakfasts she had prepared, “If you trust us to lock up?”

Steve and Jan laughed, “I think we can trust out girlfriend and her friend.” Jan said smiling.

Mina made a sick face over their showing of affection. “Don’t forget Steve, any time you want a lunchtime quickie, just give me a call.” She said winking.

Forty minutes later saw Steve at work, he walked into the office smiling, his life was good, unique and good; a little strange maybe.

About an hour into the work day his boss came into the office closely followed by an attractive woman with antlers and a man with oddly bent legs and goat horns. “Steven, I’d like to introduce you to Amat,” she said gesturing towards the woman, “and Keron. They are out new hires as part of our proactive employment program.”

Steve was aware of the proactive employment program, it was originally designed to give women and minority races an opportunity. It was a pretty hard program as the company was concerned that someone would be given a permanent position who had not shown that they were skilled or suitable. It was a kind of intern program which trained and assessed the candidates in order to find skilled candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“Nice to meet you both.” He said holding out his hand to shake theirs. Amat was the first to return the gesture, “Part of the Mythfolk recruitment strategy?”

Amat frowned and looked towards Keron before looking back at Steve, “That’s right. You know some Mythfolk I take it?” Amat asked.

“My neighbour’s, they moved in not long ago, but they are really nice and we have gotten pretty close.” She paused for a moment before turning her head slightly to the side.

“Oh good.” His boss piped up, “It’s a little embarrassing to admit but we don’t really have anyone in the organisation who is culturally appropriate for the mentor role.” Steve braced for the coming comment, “Would you mind Steve?”

He smiled, of course this was going to happen, and the worst part was that his boss, and he was sure all of management would think this was a great idea.

“Sure, we three should get coffee say tomorrow?” He finished.

Both Amat and Keron agred and they set aside a time for the next day. The rest of Steve’s work day was spent distracted, but productive. By the end of the day all he wanted to do was race home to see his fiancé.
