Chapter 5 by juneboi2 juneboi2

How do you answer?

With the truth, or at least most of it.

You look away, embarassed at being caught out. You decide to answer with what she'll understand.

"I recently awoke to a superpower to just... know things. Kind of how you woke up yesterday and no one could see you."

Natalie squints at you suspiscously, her face still flushed, then shruggs, standing up awkwardly as she makes sure to cover up what she can with her hands. "Well, um, bye. I'll just... go." She turns to leave, covering up her rear.

You call after her, "Just so you know, no one will see the clothes you wear either, so long as they're touching your skin directly."

She freezes, and turns around, looking hopeful. She even almost forgets to cover herself up for a second. "Really? How do you know?"

You tap your temple. "I know whatever I want to know. Just make sure whatever you're carrying or wearing is touching your skin directly. You'll probably learn to figure it out later, but that should be automatic for now."

Natalie's eyes go wide. "Figure it out? Like, I'll be able to control it?"

You shrug and nod. "I'm confident."

She starts to tear up and nods, biting her lip, before she turns and leaves, taking off at a dead sprint.

You turn your attention back to the lesson, grateful that no one cares what happened in the back of some college classroom. High school really did lie.

You spend most of the period using your power to learn more about Natalie Hendrickson. She's a quiet, shy, bookish girl of 21 who's never had a relationship of any kind yet, though she fancies herself bi. She had a really rough day yesterday as she came to terms with the reality of her new situation, and today she was just trying to reclaim what normalcy she could. Her favorite color is burgundy, and she's currently super wierded out by you, but looking forward to interacting with someone normally.

You think it's ironic that someone who spends most of her day largely unseen anyways would care about becoming invisible, but you suppose that it's probably about her control in the situation. Or, more aptly, her lack of control. You suppose that, were it you in her shoes, you'd be pretty scared, too.

You look forward to meeting her in your next class you two share, which happens to be in only a few minutes. She'll probably be a little late, seeing as she's only just on her way back, but it's not as if anyone will notice or mind an invisible girl walking into a full classroom.

Class is almost over when your teacher calls you out for having paid no attention. You look in his direction and hide a smile.

Show off?
