Chapter 6 by juneboi2 juneboi2

Show off?

Just a little.

"Young man, if you have so much confidence in your grasp of this subject, why don't you come up and solve the equation on the board?"

You look at the equation an smirk. Even before today, you understood the math behind this. It would have taken you a few embarassing minutes to work out the answer, but thankfully, that didn't actually apply here.

It was a mathematical model for an Einstein-Rosen bridge, also known as a wormhole. You applied for this class voluntarily for a reason.

"I'm sorry, Professor, but I thought that we were studying applied astronomical mathematics this week. Isn't theoretics not until next month?"

Your professor rolls his eyes at the rest of the class letting out a few scattered chuckles.

"All right, alright, I stand corrected. I suppose you were paying attention. If you can solve it anyways, though, I'll buy you a soda from the vending machine."

You grin. "Really?"

Your professor shrugs. "Sure. Least I can do for putting you on the spot."

You stand up and navigate to the chalkboard. You used your powers to simply generate the answer when you paused. The answer didn't quite match the equation. Looking at the board, you realized that it worked off of the assumption that a few of the constants involved were in fact constants, when things like gravitational pull were relative, rather than fixed. This equation depended on the gravitational compression of space being performed relative to Earth's surface as a standard for spacial array, rather than having a variable present that could be replaced with the spacial alignment of an area in question.

In other words, the question was wrong.

You tentatively erased the number in question and replaced it with a variable, looking to your teacher for approval. He raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. Taking his silence as encouragement, you completed a simplified proof to reveal the conclusion of the equation, keeping the new variable in mind. You worked in silence, using your power liberally.

When it was done, you stood back and looked back at your teacher, who was beaming. "Excellent work!"

He turned to the rest of the class. "Can anyone explain why he changed one of the numbers into a variable?"

You made your way back to your seat as a few students tentatively raised their hands and the teacher explained what you did. Sitting down, you think about what you know now, and how it changes things for you. As you were working on the board, it occured to you that the energies and technology necessary to produce a stable wormhole were well within the grasp of the modern day, if only someone knew to look and had the reason to do so.

You could make this real, without having to use your full powers to will it into existence. You could get rich from this.

What would be the point, though? After all, with your powers, you could have all of that anyways. And it would be so easy... Maybe too easy?

Your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the clock striking the hour, signaling the end of the period. A few individuals with places to be began to pack up, but most stayed with their notepads out, paying rapt attention to your teacher's explanation of Einstein-Rosen bridges.

Do you stay, or do you head to your next class?
