Once I got back to the festival, it didn’t take me long to find Fabe. As I am walking up to him, Fabe notices me.

He then walks straight to me and says, “Where’s Emma.”

“Why Emma?” I ask.

“You know why. She’s my girl.” Fabe answers. “Dammit, if that pig is with her again, I’ll have to give him another beating.”

Fabe is about to walk away, but I stop him.

“See, Fabe. There is something I’ve never really figured out.” I say. “Why Emma and not me?”

“Am I not more reliable than my sister?” I ask. I then start playing with my hair and continue, “I always thought that between me and my twin I was the sexiest. Am I wrong?”

“What are you saying?” Fabe asks, clearly still confused.

When Fabe is drinking his third beer, it is time for me to put my plan into motion. I ask him to win another prize for me at one of the stalls and I even offer to hold his beer while he’s doing it. After quickly putting the empty medicine bottle back into my pocket, Fabe turns around and cheers his winning the game. About ten minutes later it is about time for the wagon to move. I need to get rid of him.

I then point at the back of the village and say, “How about you head out over to the edge of the forest. You know, where we can get some privacy. And then some ten minutes from now, I’ll join you there and we can have some real fun.”

Fabe smiles and says, “How about we go there together.”

“See you soon, Fabey.” I say happily as he starts walking away.

I wait until he’s a fair distance away and I can merge into the crowd. Then I start walking in the exact opposite direction. Don’t run, just walk. No need to draw attention to myself. But knowing that my sister is about to leave, I do walk a bit faster than I normally do.

Did Darx even get her there? What if they ran into Kase? Would Amelia have been with Kase? Maybe Darx already saw what Amelia is really like. What if the wagon is full and they don’t want to take Emma along? Now my heart is beating faster. Even worse, what if I’m too late and they have already left? No, I still haven’t given it to her yet! Emma!!

I start running towards the village entrance. I can’t be late. I have to see her one last time. As I am heading closer to the village entrance, I see the wagons are still there. And Oliver is just ahead of me. Great, we can all say goodbye together.

Emma gives me a big hug and cries, “I love you so much, big sister. You’re the best.”

“I love you too, little sis.” I say back as I return the hug. “Stay safe out there.”

Darx and Oliver have a moment as well. After Emma and I have said our goodbyes I reach into my pocket and pull out the golden coin I got from Mr. Enzo a few days ago.

I hold it out to my twin sister and say, “I want you to have this, Emma.”

Emma looks at the coin with astonishment. “Mia, that’s a …”

“You are starting a new life in [Riledo].” I say. “You will have more need of this than me.” I then reach for one of Emma’s pockets and place the coin inside.

Emma starts crying and she leans over to give me one last hug.

Oliver and Emma got into the wagon, and Darx and I watched them go. Watching Emma leave was harder than I thought. But I have to be strong for her. Having Darx here helps me keep my emotions under control. If he were to see me crying like a baby, I would die of shame.

"Are you okay, Mia? I thought you would cry." Darx then asks.

"Emma has always been the one to cry easily.” I tell Darx. “If I let her see me cry, I know it would be more difficult for her to leave."

Darx pauses for a moment, then says, "Emma is no longer seeing you."

“I know …” I reply.

I tried my hardest not to cry. But eventually, it turns out I was not as strong as I thought I was. Tears started rolling down my cheeks and I turned away from Darx. I don’t want him to see me, not like this.

But Darx came and hugged me. That is when I lost it. I hugged him back, pulled him close to me and I cried my heart out. Darx didn't comment. He simply held me until it was all out. Thank you so much for supporting me now, Darx. If only you could see how perfect you and I would be for each other.

"Thanks, Darx. I feel better." I say after I finish crying.

"Do you want me to walk you home?" Darx asked.

I look at him innocently and ask, "Are you trying to take advantage of me now that I'm ****!?"

"W-What? N-No...., it's not that, I-I just..." Darx stutters.

"Hahaha! I'm kidding!"

"You clearly feel better already...!" Darx responds.

"Why don't we..."

A woman's scream cut short what I was about to say. The music stopped, and the sound of many people screaming began to be heard. Now what happened? The commotion seems to come from the bonfire. Darx and I looked at each other confused, and ran to see what had happened. When we arrived, I see a large crowd gathering. Did someone get hurt? Darx manages to find a way into the crowd but not me. I keep getting pushed out.

"You didn't have to kill him." Someone yells.

Somebody died?

“He’s a drunk! You easily could have pushed him to the ground!” Another villager yells

"There was no need to stab him in the chest!” Someone yells.

What the hell is going on?! Who got stabbed?!

I try to find Darx but I can’t find him anymore. Darx, where are you?

I stayed a long time, until after the crowd starts dispersing. When that happened, I finally discovered who had died. It was Noah, the old village drunk. Can’t say I ever liked him, but he was part of our community. Now he is gone. There was also a woman crying at his body. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her before. Who is she?

But after all that happened tonight, I was getting so very tired. I ended up going home to sleep.

As I lie in bed, I lament how horrible this day has been. It has all gone wrong in so many ways. Darx was supposed to see the real Amelia and have his illusions shattered. He never did. With Noah’s ****, I’m sure that will be the new rumor going around, not Amelia kissing Kase in public. If Kase ever even used that perfume I gave him. And for the first time ever the room next to mine, Emma’s room, is empty.
