Wishes from Mizuchi

Ichika. The young woman sat on the roof of her masters house. The old master was taking an early nap on the porch. She knew that soon the master would die and she would be left alone again. She had been afraid of this ever sense he had told her of his fate. The former orphan had been desperately searching for a way to alter fate. However, every story and record she had found said that trying to fight fate only ensured its arrival. The only power she had found that could break destiny was a wish of a Dragonfall. However, the price was more than most were willing to pay. Ichika had nothing she would not part with to save her master. The deviations had pointed to this day to be the day of the fall. She had been waiting and watching the sky all morning. Now he burning light appeared and she cast out her wish. She waited and then felt the shift of destiny and a small disk appeared in her hand. “Train ell and grow strong, I will change his fate and you will then join me” a warm and strong voice whispered into her ear sparking warmth in her belly and a blush on her cheeks.

Yamnei. The court stood watching the sky. Servers carried drinks to those waiting. Yamnei was bord, bord and irritated. This tradition was pointless. While she did not doubt the court diviners, she doubted any of the public wishes that would be made today would be granted. Most would be so self centered or contradictory or self serving. She could be drilling her troops or reviewing intelligence reports or practicing her sword work, or any of a hundred other tasks. But no, Luke the other members of the court she had to be here waiting for the arrival of a great dragon. She glowered at the useless flotsam of the court, hear to put on a false show of bravery. Then a ripple rolled across the court and all eyes looked to the sky. There it was the burning light of the Dragonfall. Wishes were shouted to the burning light, imortality, wealth, beauty. She looked to the burning trail and calmly spoke “ I wish you to give from yourself that what you take from me!” A small smile crossed her lips. Now that this sham was over she could… “ Gladly General, my friendship, loyalty, and love” a warm smoky voice murmured across the courtyard and all eyes turned just in time to see the look of surprise on the generals face just as a burst of light enveloped her.

Jia. She sat on the porch of the living space watching the sky. She was sipping her tea and watching the clouds in the sky. She had finished her chores a little early today and was taking a break. She was alone for now at her family shrine and to be honest she was **** for a change of some kind. Yes the power granted by the Keystones was great, and the status of a shrine madden protected her from much. But she was bored and curios what was sealed inside the shrine. She would give much to know what was in the shrine and more to have a chance to leave and go on an adventure. As she pondered this she felt a distance in the world and looking up she was shocked to see the burning trail of a Dragonfall. Before better judgement could stop her she cast out a wish. A portal snapped open and as if drawn by some strange **** she strode through.

Qianfan. He sat on the roof balcony of the tavern looking out over the city. While some would see the glitter and grandeur of the city he saw past that. He saw those who had been overlooked, ignored, and abused. The laws that should have given the Lord the power to support and protect his people were ignored. The codes of honor that would have **** the lord to follow and enforce those laws was twisted to please his whims. Quinfan “Honors Blade” wanted the lords to truly follow the honor rather than play lip service to it. As if in answer to his thoughts the sky was lit by the burning trail of a Dragonfall. Seizing the chance he cast out his wish and stepped through the subsequent portal to pay for what would better the lives of untold hundreds of thousands.

Katsumi. She counted her coins in disappointment. That last merchant had driven a hard bargain and had seemed **** to buy the mirror with the spirit bound into. She knew he would probably double or triple what he had payed her for it. She stomped her foot in frustration. The people who she had sealed the ghost for had barely payed her anything and now the merchant had been stingy. She would barely have enough for a month at a good inn with food and baths. She really wished that everyone would just acknowledge her as the hero she was and just give her what she wanted. Then she felt the world shudder. She looked up in surprise. A Dragonfall! The burning trail and surge of power matched what she had been told by her mother. This was a chance she could make her life so much better. Quickly she cast out with a wish that if granted should give her the pampered life she deserved. As the portal snapped open she almost skipped through.

Yuubi. Yuubi sat watching the rest of the court mill about as they waited. She hid a small smile. So many hopes that would be dashed so many disappointed futures. The lady general caught her eye and a wicked little smile curved her mouth even further. Oh, she thought she would be so clever but that cleverness was boing to bight her in that tight but, among other places. She continued to look around and watch the scurrying of the court. So much power, she was tired of watching it flow around her and pass her bye. Now her chance was almost here… or hear now she corrected as she looked up. That was odd three fates instead of two. She cast out her wish and waited as the crux point arrived. Then her path was chosen and she smiled as she and the general both were surrounded by white light and she felt the weight of the small white stone enter her hand as she vanished.

Fuji. Fuji sat in her prison. They called it a shrine, but it was effectively a prison. She had been held here for three Dragonfalls. Her foretold weirder would be found during a Dragonfall and she now felt the building tension of the world and then the snap as the Dragonfall began. For the fourth time she cast out her wish and this time she felt her core sing in joy as the wish was granted and she was pulled from her prison in a flash of light to her wielded or held in trust somewhere more interesting than this locked shrine.

Goro. He stood at the gate to the spirit world as he had fore time beyond the memories of all but the gods. He looked out on the physical world. He had heard stories of that world beyond counting. He now waited. Unlike many others his position let him time the Dragonfalls and now one was due. He watched the world of the living. Then when it came he was ready his wish was simple but powerful. Beside him reality shuddered and a three headed temple dog faded into existence. He felt the mantle of guardian shift over to the new guardian. With a nod Goro shifted into the world of the living for the first time. The wind caressed his fur for the first time and he shook his head in joy. Time fore some adventure.

Meili. Meili stood with the other hopefuls separate from the rest of the court. Like the two other women and three men she had been raised and trained to be the perfect consort to a dragon lord, they were all now ready to form the first span to connect the Phoenix lord and the new great dragon. While the others seemed ready to let themselves be pawned of if not chosen she truly feared her fate. The disgusting old letch of a general had been shadowing her at events for the last month and showing his interest in her moon pail skin, jade eyes, raven dark hair, and supple voluptuous figure in a way that made her skin crawl and stomach knot in disgust. She now prayed with all her heart that she would be accepted and her wish to be a gift to the new dragon would be granted. The the court stirred and her eyes jumped to the sky. There it was the burning trail of the Dragonfall. She cast out her wish and prayed. She gasped in relief as she was surrounded in a flash of light and taken to her new lord.

Taki. She sat among the warriors recognized by the Emperor as the court waited to show there bravely by wishing to the Dragonfall. She looked around and frowned in annoyance. The new emperor sat among several of his concubines shamelessly. He lacked the honor and bearing of his father who she had so respected. Further she could see he was already going to fat the softness of the concubines being far more attractive than the training yard. As she looked up at the cries of the others she wished that the new emperor would find that in himself that was his fathers legacy. She blinked in surprise at seeing the Dragonfall, then gasped in shock as a light enveloped her as she knew her wish had been granted.
