Winning Time

John, Carrie, Tommy, Cassie and their staffs were all at John's house. A stage had been set up downtown for later. It was foregone conclusion really. He was affiliated with the right party in the right state.

By 9 a.m., it was over. They called the race, and Tommy and Cassie cheered as John and Carrie kissed in celebration. They were now the Governor and First Lady of the state. Your dad and your ex.

Carrie was now 9 months pregnant. She went to the restroom. She was supposed to give birth next week, to give John time to adjust to the election results. But Jack and Cathy wanted to join the party too. She staggered out of the bathroom, looking over at John.

"My water broke."

Four hours later, John got another victory: two more sandy-haired babies, from the love of his life. He'd won a lot today. He'd won a lot since he met Carrie.
