Chapter 2 by Orlog4 Orlog4

Who are you?

William Davis, heir to the royal family of a small island state

When you and your mother accompanied your grandfather to his car, you were initially impressed that, in addition to a very expensive-looking sedan, he also had three dark-skinned men in suits with him who immediately stood at attention when you were still about ten meters away. At that point, however, you simply thought that your father's family was very rich.

As soon as you were in the car, two of the men sat in the back with you and the third sat behind the steering wheel. Your grandfather, himself quite well tanned, revealed to you that your father, and therefore you too, were by no means ordinary citizens. In fact, you would have blue blood. You are currently the direct heir to the royal family of the Caribbean island state Bahía ámbar.

At first you thought it was a stupid joke and since the funeral was just over, you thought it was extremely inappropriate. However, your grandfather just smiled and continued to tell you about the island, which you never heard of before. The shock for both you and you mother came after about an hour, when the car suddenly stopped in front of a large building, that was in fact the Caribbean embassy. An embassy employee greeted your grandfather with a slight bow and reported that everything was prepared as requested in an office on the first floor.

As it soon turned out, Bahía ámbar was a relatively independent microstate with an area of around 250 square kilometers and a population of around 22,000. The country exports mainly coffee, but also fruit, sugar, a little fish and occasionally a few precious metals are mined. Your family has ruled the island since the colonial era. One of your ancestors abolished slavery centuries ago and democratic elections have been held on the island for almost 90 years. The royal family still has certain rights to restrict or circumvent the elected government, but this is rarely carried out.

You are more than overwhelmed by the flood of information and your grandfather smiles understandingly. He calmly explains to you that you have to worry about nothing. You are not **** to anything, and even if you accept your heritage, you still have some years before you need to take over the crown. However, your father had great difficulty finding his way around life as a heir to the throne. One day he told your grandfather that he wanted to go to America and live a normal life. Since all attempts to change his mind failed, your grandfather granted him his wish. The relationship between the two remained quite tense over the years.

Normally that would also exclude you from the line of succession. But unfortunately, there is a very old law from the time the kingdom was founded. According to this, only male family members are allowed to inherit the throne. And currently there are three family branches. Your father, his brother and sister and one of his uncles. Your fathers brother has no children due to a medical reason, his sister can't take the throne herself and so her son can't either, and your granduncle only has two daughters.

So there are only two ways, You claim the throne or the parliament will have to overturn the old law, which would lead to a long, drawn-out process in which several possible successors would fight for the crown. In worst case even a civil war or a war of succession would be possible. But that is only the worst case. Because of this, your grandfather has decided that he wants to meet you. Because you are the only direct heir who is a male. And of course he also wants to meet his grandson. All in all, he officially invites you to Bahía ámbar. You are a welcome guest to see the land of your ancestors and if you decide to rejoin the family, both you and your mother are welcome to stay as long as you want.

Do you accept the invitation of your grandfather?
