Chapter 3 by Orlog4 Orlog4

Do you accept the invitation of your grandfather?

After a moment of considering, you and your mom accept

You don’t answer immediately. Your grandfather offers a lot, but also asks a lot. And you have no idea how much of this is true. Your father never talked to you about Since your mother is also just overwhelmed, you ask for a moment alone to discuss things. Your grandfather nods understanding and leaves you and your mother alone so you can discuss the invitation.

“Mom, what do you think?” you ask and try to sound calm, “I’m not the only one here who thinks this is crazy, right?”

“I … I don’t know, honey,” your mother says and takes a few deep breaths, “your father never told me about this. He … he just told me he had some trouble with his family. And he would only go back if it is absolutely necessary.”

“Grandfather, the king, seems to not hold dad’s decision against him,” you mumble, “at least not really. But if dad would ever have told us he is a prince, I doubt we would have believed him. Still, the thought of visiting dads’ homeland and the royal palace interests me. This is not a chance you get often.”

“Are you sure, William?” Your mother asks thoughtfully, “being a king or prince is not as great as it sounds. There are so many rules, traditions and expectations. Your father for sure had his reasons to leave this place. And I also don’t really like the thought that somebody is somehow more important than others, just because he is born in a special family. Let alone the fact, that these guys consider woman as not worthy to inherit the crown. This is not something they should be proud about.”

“Well, I admit, I’m not a fan of monarchy either,” you admit and shrug your shoulders, “but I also never have been part of one. And according to grandfather, there is a democratically elected government. So, the King is rather representative.”

“Well, I guess that is right,” your mother mumbles and sighs, “I also admit, that I’m inclined to accept this offer. Visiting a Caribbean island as a guest of a royal family sounds like a dream. And we haven't had a family vacation in a few years. With our work and your studies ... But the question is, what do these people expect from us in return. I hardly think that this offer has no catches. Even if they are family.”

“I agree,” you answer immediately, “this sounds too good to be true. But I guess when we are carefully, we can accept the invitation and still avoid any catches. We just make clear that we are only guests and not family members for now. And we neither agree nor sign anything without letting it check by a lawyer first.”

“That sounds reasonable,” your mother says but not sounds fully convinced, “if you want, we can give it a try. But only if my father in law accepts our conditions. We can leave whenever we want and we have no obligations to the Island or the royal family until we decide otherwise.”

“Alright, mom, lets tell grandpa our decision,” you say and nod.

How does he react?
