Chapter 5 by Lostghalo Lostghalo

What's next?

Who is in Jessica's class?

The first bell rang and a the door swung open to unleash a babbling throng of 12th grade students. Jessica folded her arms and cross her legs as she watched the group of faces that had become familiar over her first few weeks at Elm Dale Academy. This being the first class of the day, they were mostly still in their teenage slumber - grumpy at being awake so early, but a few stood out for looking more alert than the others.

The first through the door was Amy. A short and slim Asian girl with a long curtain of glossy raven black hair that shines in the classroom's florescent lights. She was carrying a little pink backpack covered with a colorful array of stickers for various anime and indie bands Jessica didn't have a clue about. She shot Jessica a shy smile and wave from under her bangs. She really is a sweat heart...I really like talking to her.

The second was Ian. a small and slightly pudgy boy with a untidy mop of dark brown hair and thick glasses. Jessica had picked him out from day one has a typical nerd. She felt a little bad for him, and had already had to step in a few times when he was being picked on. He darted a quick glass in her direction. He didn't meet her eyes or nod, but Jessica almost thought she had seen him grab his pants and adjust something in there. What an odd boy...smart though.

The third was one of the last students to enter. It was Tyler Sterling. He strutted into the room as if he owned it; which might as well be true given how much money his parents had given to the school. He wore his dark blue letterman jacker like it was a 3,000 dollar suit. His dark blonde hair was carefully styled to look like he hadn't even thought about it. He flashed Jessica a dazzlingly bright smile that made her blink. Wow, I wish I had gone to high school with him!...whoa, watch it Jessica. He's your student.

The classroom door was about to swing shut, and Jessica was about to get up to start her lesson; when a final figure stuck his head in. Is was Don Holder - the school principle. He was a large man in his early 50's with a slight belly and blading head. He gave Jessica a oily smile as he walked towards her desk.

"Good morning Jessica. You look amazing today." He said.

The comment was a little inappropriate, but Jessica decided to ignore it. "Good morning, Mr. Holder."

"Don-please! I know it's a little late since you've been with us for a few weeks now, but I just wanted to give you this. Consider a "Getting to know you" present." He said, and placed a small carved statue of a woman in a flowing dress on the corner of her desk.

"Oh, thank you. That's very nice of you." Said Jessica - a little taken aback.

"Don't mention it. I am just so happy to have you...working...under me." He said, and Jessica could swear she saw him try and glance down her top. "Now, if your excuse me. I don't want to take up any more of your lesson time." He waved to the students and left.

The rest of the day passed normally enough. It felt like no time at all until the final bell of the day rang and Jessica watch her much more energized 8th period Freshman class leave. She sighed and started to gather up her things when a soft knock came on her classroom door.

Who has come to see Jessica?
