Chapter 4

Where I End… And You Begin
The twins were slightly shaken. But Lisa tried to laugh it off, calling Margot's appearance a “trick of our minds” and dismissing it as part of the strange charm of the old house. But Liam had been quiet. He left Lisa in Margot's haven and went into the bedroom next door. His thoughts kept circling around Margot's cryptic words.
“You'll find it hard to know where I end… and you begin.”
Her voice echoed in his head, soft and silken, curling around his thoughts like smoke. He told himself he’d imagined the way her gaze seemed to pierce right through him, how her presence felt almost too real for a ghost. And too alluring ...
Alone now in his room, Liam stood in front of the tall mirror that leaned against one wall. His reflection stared back, but something about it felt… different. His hair was mussed from the day’s long drive, his shirt slightly wrinkled, but there was something in his expression — a flicker in his eyes that wasn’t entirely his own.
“You’re just tired,” he muttered to himself, running a hand through his hair.
But as he turned away from the mirror, a soft, feminine laugh filled the room. He froze, his breath catching in his throat. Slowly, he turned back toward the mirror.
There, standing right in the spot where his reflection should be, was Margot.
She was there — her pale skin glowing faintly in the dim light, her dark, wavy hair cascading over her shoulders. She wore the same black, lacy gown as before, though now it seemed even more revealing, the fabric almost translucent in places. Her smile was playful but predatory, her eyes fixed on him with unsettling intensity.
“Miss me already?” she purred, tilting her head.
Liam was dazed, his heart hammering in his chest. “What — how did you —?”
She smirked, her eyes deep and dark. “You summoned me, of course,” she said, her voice low and teasing.
“I didn’t—”
“Oh, but you did,” she interrupted, “You’ve been thinking about me, haven’t you? Wondering what I meant.”
He swallowed hard, his words caught in his throat. A strange, tingling warmth flowed through him, like a current running just beneath his skin. He felt his member stiffen in his pants.
“Don’t worry,” she whispered, her lips brushing against his ear. “You’ll understand everything. In time.”
Liam tried to pull away, but his body didn’t respond the way he expected. Instead, he found himself leaning into her image, his resistance crumbling under the weight of her presence. It was as though she were inside his mind, guiding his thoughts, bending his will.
“You feel it, don’t you?” Margot murmured, stepping out of the mirror to face him. Her hands rested lightly on his shoulders, her touch both comforting and commanding. “The connection between us. It’s already begun.”
“I—” He tried to speak, but his voice faltered.
“Hush,” she said, her fingers trailing down his arms, down his abs, to his loins. He moaned. “You don’t need to fight it. I won’t hurt you. Quite the opposite.”
Her eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, the room seemed to blur around them. Liam felt heat spreading through him, a sense of belonging he couldn’t explain. It was as if Margot were filling a void he hadn’t even realized was there.
“You’ll find it hard to know where I end,” she said softly, echoing her earlier words, “and you begin.”
As she spoke, Liam felt a strange, almost weightless sensation wash over him, as if he were floating. His thoughts grew hazy, his sense of self slipping away like water through his fingers. For a fleeting moment, he wasn’t sure if he was Liam or Margot — or both.
Liam blinked, his breath hitching as he stumbled back against the wall. He bumped his head with a loud thud. Then the room was quiet again, the only sound his own rapid breathing. He looked back at the mirror and saw only his reflection staring back at him. But those eyes… they weren’t entirely his.
“Liam?” Lisa called from the hallway, breaking the silence. “You okay in there?”
He hesitated, his gaze lingering on the mirror. “Yeah,” he called back, his voice trembling. “I’m fine.”
“But you don't sound like you're fine. Hope you're dressed, because I'm coming in now.”
