Chapter 4 by AnthroLover AnthroLover

What now?

What if... Shen had taken baby Po?

Shen found that little baby panda on the box of radishes before the boat departed. The little thing was crying out loudly, probably for its mother, as the peacock approached it.

As he did, Shen pulled out one of his daggers, ready to put an end to the last panda surviving, the last threat to his future. However, as he locked eyes with the baby panda, Shen faultered.

Sending his wolves to kill a village full of pandas, men, women and cubs, was one thing. However, doing it himself was another. Of course, Shen had no qualms about murdering a child (at least on his own mind), but seeing those big, round, teary eyes locking on him made the peacock's spirit weaver on the slightest way for the briefest of moments.

It was enough for him to get cold feet about killing the baby panda.

For a long time, Shen just stood in there, looking at the sniffling baby, as if he was trying to convince himself to kill it. He stood in there for so long that his wolf followers soon found him and that little panda as well.

After watching their leader look at that baby panda for a couple minutes, they finally asked Shen if he wanted them do "do it" for him. Shen took an extra minute to consider it.

"No." Shen finally said, "Pick up the baby, we're taking it with us." The peacock said, turning around and walking away, leaving his wolves to follow his orders. Wolf Boss himself picked the little ball of fur and carried it on his arms as he and the rest of the wolves followed the white peacock.

After returning home, Shen found his parents waiting for him, with horror for knowing what their son had done. They immediatelly banished Shen and all of his wolves, unaware that Shen had brought back a single survivor of that village. Since they didn't knew about the baby panda, they didn't stopped Shen and the wolves of taking it with them to their exile.

As Shen traveled away from his homeland, vowing to one day come back to reclaim his birthright, one of his loyal wolves was carrying a sleeping baby panda in a basket.

20 years later... what is the baby panda's future?
