Chapter 101 by Bengates
Prompt: Reference all previous material about Jake being Jareck, Fenrir, the moon goddess, etc... Jake reveals he's making Valkyria stronger so that one day she can hopefully kill him and prevent Fenrir from ending the world. 20 paragraphs or more.
Well that became dark, I approve. Jake is apparently the only thing preventing Armageddon
Jake looked her dead in the eye as he handed her a cup of steaming tea, the fragrance was bitter, the taste, sweet. "You can't trust me, that, little pup, is the point."
He broke their mutual gaze and crossed one furry leg over the other, staring out over the fields as the rain began to pummel the fields to mud. "You want the truth? Or would you prefer I keep lying to you right up to the end?"
"Why the hell would I prefer that?" Valkyria asked, taking the tea and sipping it cautiously.
"You'd be surprised," Jake replied, "most people prefer that I just keep lying to them. Of the people whom I've told the truth to, heroes, a dragon or two that was bored and curious, a few of the arch-fey that traded my truth for their favors..." Jake's voice trailed off, "all the ones that you and Sarah and Dana and Amy and normal people would consider to be good people, dragons, things whatever... Point is, all the good ones immediately tried to kill me. In a few cases I just ran away, in one or two I was **** to kill them instead."
Valkyria swallowed, "you just **** me to--"
"**** you," Jake corrected her, "goaded, if you like, I didn't **** anything. If the lives of all those people and their homes mattered to you that much you could have just not been so selfish and cowardly and let me kill you and no one else would have been hurt."
Valkyria swallowed her anger with another sip of the hot, bitter-sweet tea, and continued, "after what you did, I need to know the truth. It will decide if I break my oath to you, kill you myself or die trying, or if there's some way in the seven hells that what you are about to say salvages the shit-show you've made of my promises to you."
Jake smiled at her, "I like you, you're much more blunt that Sarah." He stared back off into the middle-distance. "I need you to get stronger, Valkyria, much, much stronger, and fast."
"Why!?"
"Because this is the truth, I'm a stick of dynamite with a fuse that gets shorter every day. One day I'll go off, and it'll be the end of the world, most likely, a great apocalyptic cataclysm if you're very very lucky."
Valkyria's ears pinned back against her head, mind swimming, trying to make sense of what Jake was saying.
Jake could see her confusion, "alright, here's the short version. My father, straight up, is Fenrir, the great wolf, eater of worlds, eternal hunger, blah blah blah, and I, his firstborn, the first ever werewolf, betrayed him to the moon goddess."
Jake grinned hugely as if reliving an epic memory, "chained him up tight, hers to torment and play with forever and then she threw away the key."
Valkyria nodded slowly, "and... you're the key."
Jake clapped his hands, spilling his tea all over the porch as rainwater began to leak down from the old ceiling. "Give the woman a prize!"
His face became serious again, "yes, I'm the key, thrown back down here from the moon to live out my immortality with the weight of my father's will constantly pressing into me like a knife in my back, slowly turning, agony slowly building, until one day I can't take it anymore and I snap, I give in, my father goes free, and it's bye bye world for the rest of you, poof."
He waved his hands dramatically, "just with a lot less poof and a lot more fangs, claws, things that go bump in the night, rivers turning to blood, that sort of thing."
Valkyria set down her empty cup, her mind racing as she tried to process the enormity of what Jake had just told her. "So, you want me to get stronger so that I can stop you? Is that it?"
Jake shrugged, "Maybe. Maybe you can find a way to break the curse, to save me, or to find some other way to avert the apocalypse. Or maybe you'll be strong enough to just put me down when the time comes, or maybe you'll fail and we'll all be screwed. But at least you'll have a chance, and maybe that's enough."
Valkyria was silent for a moment, considering. "And if I refuse to do this? If I break my oath to you?"
Jake's face hardened. "Then I'll have **** but to kill you, Valkyria. You made a promise to me, and I expect you to keep it. And if you won't keep it willingly, then I'll make sure you keep it anyway."
Prompt: Valkyria's sword joins in the conversation, it is sentient because of an ancient spirit and remembers when the war in heaven took place. It describes and confirms what Jake says. Continue the story as far as you can, do not resolve it.
