Weirdly enough, it depends.

Opening up his photo app, Leonard pretty easily took a photo of Renamon standing in his apartment’s living room. When he showed everyone how his attempt worked Erica interjected “Wait, you said it yourself. Your phone’s a Digivice now. Hold on.” before she pulled out her own phone to try to capture the Digimon on film.

Her pics ended up having a graphical mess that covered Renamon’s form, but funnily enough both Rosie and Lottie were entirely unaffected by the digital distortion, coming through like normal.

“Well, isn’t that interesting.” Lenny muttered, eyes narrowing. On a subsequent test, Renamon showed back up on Erica’s phone camera after she turned back to plain old Rena.

That transformation was short lived though, as she once more became Renamon and stated “There, proof that I can evade detection even though apparently everyone is always watched at all times.” as her proposed plan seemed feasible.

“Maybe it’s for the same reason Digimon overload typical computers when they jump into them, like they’re too complicated to be rendered in a digital format that isn’t advanced enough. Genuine artificial intelligence is usually considered way too much for a typical computer to do for real, after all.” Leonard mused. In real life at least, only quantum computers are considered capable of matching the comparative processing power a person’s brain had. That’s what he remembered hearing once in college, though he didn’t completely understand all of the computer terminology at the time. He was an English major, after all.

Ann pointed out “Call me crazy, but taking a picture of someone isn’t like simulating their brain.” as she bounced Rosie on her lap. “Let’s just call it a lucky break, yeah? Mara gets her digital fox-girl and we can all go? I’ve got an appointment with my psychic today, and I don’t want to miss it. Feels like months have passed, with how long this meeting’s run. C’mon, let’s cut it here.”

Mara clearly thought differently, though. “Can we go over the deal with the Digivice thing, though? Like, do I need one too for Renamon to officially be my partner?” she asked, before holding up the Black Digi-Egg that still held a Kuzuhamon that hadn’t hatched yet. “And could I hide this better if I had a Digivice too?”

Leonard held up his phone and eyes it warily, grumbling “I honestly don’t know. I haven’t really explored everything it could do, and honestly I’m a little scared to. I got this with my Point Transfer after exchanging a lot of a resource that I actually cared about, and it clearly paid off a lot.” as he fiddled with the button on the side that switched the screen on and off.

“But I’m a little anxious to poke that proverbial bear by delving into exactly everything I can do with it. This stuff could be disastrous if it goes wrong.” The short man had vivid memories of watching Digimon Tamers as a kid, of when Megidramon almost ended the world. At least until Guilmon and Takato figured out how to Bio-Merge and became Dukemon (Gallantmon in the dub) instead so they could defeat Beelzemon.

Erica then put a hand on his shoulder, saying “Well, whatever happens we’ll be here for you.” with a supportive and understated smile. “Besides, if worst comes to worst I’m sure we can figure something out, put our heads together.”

Lenny sighed “You’re saying that cause you don’t know the franchise as well as me, but I appreciate it. Thanks Erica.” as he returned her sentiment with a smile of his own.

“But, okay then. Let’s get into it.” he said, everyone in the apartment gathered around with their eyes on the Digivice’s screen. Renamon turned back into Rena as she took her place in the impromptu circle, as all of the women watched with bated breath while Leonard opened his apps and tapped around experimentally.
