Chapter 74
by
Doobler
Which Digimon is gonna get the Cauldron boost?
All of them. Three Cauldrons, three Digimon. It’d test the “4000 LP” theory too.
“Actually, I might as well split it up, three different pots of goop on the stove after all. Not like there’s a deadline for Digivolving either.” Leonard said, before rising from the couch and going into the kitchen section, grabbing three cups from a cabinet and ladling some LP-boosting mixture into each one, a pot to a cup.
He passed them around, giving Renamon hers directly since she had opposable thumbs, before saying “Okay, if you guys do wind up Digivolving, try to… crouch? I guess crouch, point is the ceiling’s not as high enough to support cool big monsters most of the time.”
Ann and Cheryl were about to feed their Digimon the healing juice, but Mara held up a hand while keeping Renamon’s cup from touching her fox mouth. “Wait, is that the best idea? Some Champion forms can be… dangerous. Including Renamon’s.” she pointed out.
“I dunno, hers should be fine. It’s some Japanese exorcist-looking one, right?” Lenny asked nonchalantly.
Mara corrected “That’s Taomon, Renamon’s Ultimate form. Kyubimon’s the Champion one.”
“What’s the difference?”
“Look it up on your phone.”
As it turned out, Kyubimon was a big fox with flaming tails. “… okay, yeah, I see what you mean. We gotta use it sometime today though, or it’ll be a waste.” Leonard sighed, before addressing the three juvenile Digimon in the room. “If you can, try and swap to a ‘human’ form of yourself once you start to Digivolve, apparently it’s easy if you try.”
With that said, the inexplicable trio of Renamon, Lalamon #1, and Lalamon #2 began to drink their juice in unison while the people around them sat with baited breath.
But, nothing happened. Confused, Lenny asked “Do… do you three feel any different?” since he had been expecting a big light show and accompanying possible apartment fire.
“Slightly. More energized, but not quite at a state bordering Digivolution.” Renamon answered.
“I definitely noticed a new option for myself, that ‘human form’ you talked about. I’d rather wait until I have proper clothes though, ones that fit my style.” Lalamon #1 chirped.
“It’s the same with me, I’d rather have something that would help me fit in with the other humans around me…” Lalamon #2 murmured.
Ann chuckled “Well, that’s easy enough to fix. Any idea what your sizes are?” as she pulled out her phone and browsed through a local courier app for clothing.
Somehow the three Rookie-level Digimon were able to accurately give their human forms’ measurements and sizes without having actually shifted into said forms even once. Leonard figured it had to do with being “digital monsters”, maybe their nature as computer lifeforms meant they had inherent access to discrete variables about themselves.
And, as fate would have it, they weren’t sized like Angie or Lili were. When their clothes were delivered an hour later, the three Digimon convened to another room to “change” in both ways one would expect.
What walked out were a tallish and lanky girl who looked like she was on an eighth-grade track and field team, and two shorter twin girls that seemed like sixth-graders.
The first one (Renamon) had blonde hair and purple eyes, with blue jeans and a white t-shirt. The twins (Lalamons #1 & #2) both had pink hair, brown eyes, and green shorts, though “#1” had a red t-shirt while “#2” had a purple t-shirt.
“Right… ‘Rookie Level’ is called ‘Child Level’ in the original Japanese…” Leonard groaned. “At least I’m probably not going to father more children with digital beings anytime soon. I hope.”
“Renamon” took up a boxing stance, and made a couple of jabs at the air. “This really feels just like my regular body, despite the proportions shrinking… at least my combat capabilities won’t suffer.”
“I’m just glad this shirt’s color agrees with me, much better that me and my sis over here are easy to tell apart.” “Lalamon #1” chuckled.
“Lalamon #2” nodded, adding “We’ll probably look and sound alike all the way until we’re Mega Level… best to get used to it…” with a demeanor that made it easy to tell who was who.
Leonard asked “Just to be clear, you were Rosemon and you were Lotusmon, correct?” pointing to #1 and #2, in that order.
“Yup. I suppose you all should call me ‘Rosie’ then, since that’s how I’ll end up.” the newly dubbed Rosie answered, before going to sit in Ann’s lap. “Though I suppose you’ll be calling me ‘dearest daughter’ more than anything else. At least until I Digivolve a few more times, though on paper I’d be an adopted daughter anyways.”
Her sister came to sit with Cheryl, noting “Not a lot of good options for making a name from ‘lotus’… maybe ‘Lottie’…? It sounds like it goes with Rosie…” as she named herself in turn.
Cheryl sighed “I would’ve gone with ‘Sidra’, it actually means lotus, but if you’re attached to Lottie I won’t try to stop you.” as she idly patted the girl’s head.
“Rosie’s a good name too, I like it.” Ann replied, embracing Rosie emphatically as she told Leonard “This is great, like a little dry run for when your kids get born. You’re getting two raises for this.” with a laugh as she brought up the thing he was sensitive about yet again.
But from the scrunched up look on her face, Mara had other thoughts. “I’m not sure Renamon, or I guess just ‘Rena’ at this point, can live with me in human form, though. I’m commuting to college from my parent’s house, and they’re not usually big on, uh, hosting strangers. I was imagining something like the show, where Renamon could hide like a ninja.” she explained, holding the Black Digi-Egg from before in her arms. “Not to mention keeping this hidden…”
“I can just do that, though.” Rena replied, returning to her Renamon form as her body glowed. Luckily her new clothes didn’t disintegrate, perhaps becoming considered “part of her” once she wore them for real. “I could always hide in your Digivice as well, Mara. I’d just need food and care every so often, like a virtual pet.” she added, sounding much the same even as she returned to being an anthropomorphic fox girl.
Lenny interjected “She doesn’t have one, remember? I’m the one with the Digivice, technically speaking I’m sort of your official Tamer anyways.” before adding “Regular hardware has a hard time holding Digimon anyways, my laptop almost caught fire when Angie popped inside it to explore the internet. A phone couldn’t be much better, even for a Digimon two levels below Ultimate.”
“Still, I can hide myself from prying eyes using my extensive skills in espionage. It’s barely a feat to elude a typical human’s notice.” Renaming responded, still unbothered.
But then Erica chimed in “You’d need to escape machine surveillance too, though. Most smartphones listen in on what people are saying to better generate ads, not to mention CCTV cameras wherever they may be. Can you hide from a camera lense?”
Leonard sighed, pulling out his phone/Digivice and grumbled “One quick way to find out, I guess.”
What happens next? Can photos or video be taken?
