Chapter 12 by bigdamnvillain bigdamnvillain

Where to?

Walk & talk

“Actually, I was thinking we’d walk. It’s not far.” You turn east with a sweeping this way gesture and Wonder Woman falls into stride beside you.

“Those glasses made a surprisingly decent disguise” you offer after a few steps.

She gives a small smile. “Don’t they? I got the idea from…a friend. I think it’s not that they hide my face so much as people just can’t imagine Wonder Woman wearing them.”

You turn the corner onto the main street, heading south. Several people do a double take as they see the tall Amazon.

“Well they fooled me and I was expecting you.” Her legs are long enough you have to make an effort to keep up with her, even tho she doesn’t seem to be hurrying.

“The dress was very nice by the way. Not at all…what was the word you used, frumpy?”

She gives a slight shrug. “Normally when I go out incognito, I make it a point to dress more plainly, lots of baggy sweaters and so forth. Adds to the camouflage.” She keeps her gaze straight ahead. “But I agreed to a date, which implies making a certain amount of effort. Besides it’s not as if I have to worry about you figuring out my dual identity.”

People passing by openly gawk at the beautiful heroine. A few of them spare you a glance, as if to say “Who’s this shmuck?”

Your chuckle sounds less **** this time. “I appreciate that. Tho I’m still having a hard time picturing the word frumpy applying to you in any context.”

“That’s because you haven’t seen my cat lady sweatshirt,” she offer cheerily.

“Wow. OK well now I have to see it!” A number of people have pulled out phones and are snapping pics.

“I wouldn’t hold your breath on that.” Diana smiles and gives a friendly wave to a little girl staring up at her, flabbergasted.

“Is it a relief?” after you’ve walked a bit. “Knowing that I already know your identity and you don’t have to worry about camouflage?”

“It might be, with someone I could trust. But I already know you aren’t trustworthy.”

You notice that not everyone seems thrilled to see the superheroine; some people look around nervously or pull their kids off the street like they’re expecting a massive metahuman brawl to break out any second.

“That’s a little unfair. I’ve been completely honest with you since we met.”

That earns you a glare and some side eye. “Met? You mean since you found me **** and took advantage of my temporary vulnerability to tie me up and **** me to answer highly personal questions to feed your own perverse gratification?”

“Potayto potahto,” you reply with a grin, a little bit of your confidence coming back. “Semantics aside, I’ve kept my word and done every thing I said I would.”

She looks away with a mildly disgusted noise, and continues striding forward.
