Here we are

“And here we are.”

“We are?” Wonder Woman looks around, slightly confused. “I do like a good bodega burrito, but it’s an interesting choice for a first date..”

You are in fact standing in front of a corner bodega, and not one of the fancier ones.

“Trust me,” you say giving her your cockiest grin.

“Of course I don’t,” she replies simply, but she follows you inside anyway.

The inside is crowded, the main aisle barely wide enough to walk through without having to turn sideways. You wave at the guy behind the counter, who barely notices you as he’s so busy staring slack-jawed at the stunning superheroine next to you. (Can you blame him?)

“Good evening,” the Amazon says pleasantly as you lead her through to the back of the shop where a large freezer marked EMPLOYEES ONLY stands between the two bathroom doors. Diana gives you a curious grin as you grab the handle and pull the metal door open.

Behind the door is an elevator. Large enough for a half-dozen people. Bare metal walls and floor, clean and brightly lit in contrast to the bodega itself. “Huh. I did not see that coming.” Diana says evenly.

You gesture for her to step inside, which she does, and you follow behind her. The freezer door swings shut behind you with a click, and then the inner elevator doors slide closed. The control panel only has two buttons; you hit the bottom one and the elevator begins moving down.

“Your secret lair?” she asks with a sardonic grin.

“No, mine’s in an underground parking garage. It isn’t nearly this nice.”

The elevator moves fast and after maybe 10 seconds it gradually slows to a stop. You can see Diana unconsciously center her balance in case a fight presents itself, but there’s no tension in her face.
