Chapter 40

Waking up with Miranda

Jack opened her eyes to see Miranda curled up close to her and she smiled. “Wow, look who’s here,” she said. “How do you feel?”

“Great…” Miranda said. “A little scared at what is to come.”

“I know how you feel,” Jack said as she reached over to the nighstands. “That’s why I want to do this. While we can. While we’re here. You’re so beautiful Miranda.”

Jack showed her a black velvet case and pressed her forehead against hers. Miranda felt tears as she realized what Jack was going to ask.

“Cheerleader, you and I when we met…. We didn’t get along. We wanted to **** each other and probably fuck each other at the same time. But fate has a funny way of doing things. And I fell in love with you. I can’t think of a moment I’d want to spend without you. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if we’ll die and go to hell or heaven. I don’t know if we’ll survive and be able to get married and have a family, but I do know whatever happens, our bond is greater than anything we can hope for. So…. Miranda Lawson…. After the war…. After it’s all done…. After we’re home on a beach in New California…. would you be my wife and marry me? Because fuck… I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather spend my life with… than you.”

Miranda laughed and pulled Jack into a deep kiss. “Yes. I’ll marry you. Now you better not fucking die before we can marry each other.”

Miranda teared up as Jack pulled her close. “God… I need you so badly,” Jack said.

“Then take me…” Miranda whispered. “Take me… and then let’s end this fucking war. Once and for all.”

Jack smiled as she kissed Miranda passionately slipping the ring onto Miranda’s finger. They grinded together. No toys. No gimmicks. Just the two of them. Skin to skin.

And it was a magical experience.
