Jack can’t sleep

Jack closed her eyes, but she couldn’t fall asleep. She gazed at Miranda who was sleeping peacefully. Jack kissed her and kissed her again. “I know you’re here,” Jack whispered. “What do I do?”

Kasumi appeared next to Jack and rested a hand on her shoulder. “Be there for her as long as you can. That’s the only thing you can do,” Kasumi whispered.

Jack felt tears in her eyes. “I can’t lose her,” Jack said. “She’s all I have.”

Kasumi gave Jack a gentle hug. “When I realized Keiji wasn’t going to make it… it was the hardest thing I had to deal with… I didn’t accept that he could be… gone. Just like that. But you’re different. You’re Jack and Miranda. There’s nothing in the galaxy that can stop you from reuniting in life or ****,” Kasumi said.

Jack nodded. “Thank you…” she said.

“And sometimes… a promise is all that is needed to bring hope to a person,” Kasumi said with a wink. “And the ring is very beautiful.”

Jack sighed. “Shouldn’t I wait?”

“Why? You should take the moment you have now,” Kasumi said. “You don’t want to have any regrets after tonight. When we go back into the field… anything could happen.”

Jack nodded. Kasumi left the room and Jack felt better about falling asleep.
