Chapter 5 by duskdawn duskdawn

Fainting at the sight of blood? Kind of understandable when it's your own

Waking up, then back to town

The sun beams straight down onto you, which is a bit odd, since you got here in the morning, but what takes your attention the most is the shadow above you. More specifically, two round orbs, seemingly covered in cloth.

"He's awake!" You recognize Connor's voice as his face blocks the sun from your eyes.

You rub your eyes as you sit up, wincing at some pain in your abdomen.

"Don't push yourself, okay? You lost a lot of blood, and I didn't have much to patch you up with." You turn to spot Kara, and from how she's kneeling, you realize that you were laying in her lap, which means those orbs... "Now that you're up, Connor and I can get back. Our parents are expecting us." She stands, and you notice her skirt is significantly shorter than it was before. Heck, from this angle- "Are you coming with us to town or not? I...still don't know who or what your are, but...you did save us." She looks away before picking up again. "Anyway, we can take you back to town, but that's all you're getting from us, okay?"

You chuckle painfully. "I save your lives and all I get are some directions?" The look you receive confirms your sarcasm was not well received. "Sorry, sorry. I'm grateful anyway." You put your hand on your wound, noticing that while you're now shirtless, the fabric of it, combined with the lower part of Kara's skirt, makes a pretty decent bandage.

You don't get much time to think, since Connor starts berating you with questions. "So mister, are you some kind of angel? I've never heard of an angel with black wings or horns or purple skin. Can you do that ray thing again? It was so cool, you just go 'zap zap zap' and the hornets were all like 'boom'. Can we go flying too? Everything looked so sma-"

"Connor! Give him a moment to breath!" Thankfully, Kara has your back, even if she's a bit more cautious than she was when you first met.

"Give me sec, okay? I can probably fly us all back, but I don't think it's best for anyone if I just land in the center of town." You slowly stand as you speak. "If flying's okay with you of course." You pose the option to Kara.

She thinks for a moment, her hand on her hip. "If you think you're in good enough shape for it, we can do it. But I'd prefer not to be bled all over again. And if you don't go straight to town I'm biting your hand off!" She points accusingly.

"Look, I get that you don't trust me, and considering what I was originally sent here to do, you shouldn't trust me, but I was telling the truth before. I want to see the Saintesses. If your town is close by though, I'll probably be sticking around a bit, since I'm stronger around here." I should really try to find out the range of the Pure Land thing...

"And what were you sent here for?" Kara crosses her arms under her bust, tapping her foot.

"Uh...I walked into that one, didn't I?... I was originally sent here as a monster, some kind of new demon lineage to help the Demon King take down the Saintesses." Kara's stare turns into daggers. "But! An angel came by and kinda...did something, and now I'm a...something that I don't even know. You said I had horns?" You touch the top of your head, feeling two horns protruding from your forehead, curling back and straightening out before flaring upward. I hope Kara didn't get hurt when I was on her lap. "Anyway, I accepted the angel's blessing and I even took an oath to not hurt any innocent people!"

"Pleeease, Kara? He's not trying to hurt anyone."

Kara looks at you, still trying to determine if you're telling the truth. "So...you really are a Hero, then?"

You raise an eyebrow. "Yyyyeeesss? Maybe? I don't know if we have the same definition, but I'm definitely not trying to kill-...okay poor choice of words with the hornets, but I'm sticking with my oath."

Kara sighs. "As I was saying before the hornets showed up, the last time anyone in our town heard of a 'falling star'...that star was the Hero, Tomoko Sakurai."

You're stunned for a second, before you shake your head. "That makes a bit more sense... Anyway, I'm sure we all have a lot more questions, looking at you Connor, but we should probably head off. If your parents are expecting you, then we should get back sooner rather than later." You stand next to Kara, putting your hand around her waist and momentarily realizing that you should probably be more embarrassed about it before Connor comes to your other side. "Alright, hold on." You flap a few times, slowly getting the strength to lift both yourself and the blonds up into the air. Almost panicking, Kara wraps her arms around your shoulders, while Connor excitedly hugs your arm. Even with the extra weight, it's not long at all before you reach a small clearing near town, and you're surprised you didn't spot it during your dogfight with the hornets. You're probably not even a mile away from your crater when you land, with a relieved Kara relaxing her grip on you. Without wasting any more time, you polymorph yourself to look human, a bit disappointed, if unsurprised, that the spell didn't fix your wound.

"We should visit the church for that wound. The priest will be able to heal you with magic." Kara waves for you to follow her as Connor takes her hand.

Lifting women off their feet already, are we?
