Chapter 9 by Lilyflier Lilyflier

...

Wake up in their arms

You wake up and feel very warm. Actually a little too warm.

You open your eyes to darkness and faintly make out the faces of Ashley and Hannah laying against the sides of your chest. Your arms wrapped around them. All of their limbs wrapped around you 'A sleepover? No, they're together, they wouldn't let me sleep in the same bed...'

Panic rises up in your chest and then you remember the events of the day before and your heart starts to slow back down. 'I must have passed out.'

You realize with a suppressed shudder that they're both naked. You carefully crawl out of the blanket, untangling yourself from their arms and legs while trying not to wake them. When you get out, you slowly crawl down the middle of the bed between their bodies and quietly exit the room.

You grab a glass of water and quickly drink it all. 'It's way too specific. Why would 8 billion people presuppose something about someone they've never even met? How would they even know about me? There would be religions and ideologies and organizations and research groups about me if I was that central to everyone's belief systems.'

Then you pause, thinking about the other axiom your mother talked about. 'Something about acting like it's normal...so maybe there wouldn't be any of that? Still, it's way too convenient...why me?'

"Did you really think you managed to sneak past us?" Ashley whispers from behind you, causing you to jump a little. You see that she and Hannah still refuse to wear clothes.

"I'll confess my mind wasn't free enough to give that much thought."

Hannah withdraws into the bedroom and retrieves two robes which they quickly slip on to make you feel like things are a little more normal, then Ashley sits beside you and Hannah returns to the bed.

"I'm sorry for making things overwhelming for you, I didn't really realize how big of a deal this is for you, but...it makes sense. I would probably feel the same way, seeing such a sudden and massive shift in reality and everyone acting like it's normal. It could feel like you're not even with the same people, maybe like you're not even in the same universe."

"It feels like none of it's real, like it's all a dream. How can it be real? Wouldn't it be narcissistic for me to think this is anything more than a coma? It's such a specific thing, all centered around me."

Hannah steps back out and walks to the kitchen to get a glass of water and Ashley responded, "I hardly think it can be called narcissistic. It feels really real, right? And even if it didn't, as she-" Ashley points to Hannah "-would be quick to point out, solipsism could be correct."

"Might as well assume he's a Boltzmann brain while we're at it." Hannah says with a playful but tired grin, returning to the bedroom doorway.

Ashley glares at her. "And besides, even if it is a coma, it's not like you can help what your subconscious comes up with. Best off taking advantage of it and having as much fun as you can while you're here, right?"

"Maybe. But what about the real Ashley and Hannah? How am I going to be able to return to seeing them the way they are? It could seriously mess up my feelings for them if I indulge this way."

"If you can change your feelings for us to accurately account for how we are here, surely you can do it again there." Ashley argues.

"That doesn't follow." Hannah states and sips at her glass.

Ashley glared again.

"What? The process of accepting how things are now would likely be easier because it's more in his favor."

"We could have at least acted like that wasn't the case." Ashley sighs.

"He wouldn't fall for it, better to make him feel understood."

"In any case, I'll try to do everything I can to make the transition smoother, and to make it feel more real and like we're the same people you knew before this."

"Me too," Hannah nods.

"Thanks," you respond and feel yourself growing sleepy again.

Ashley stands up to make room for you to lie on the couch, and Hannah retrieves a spare blanket and pillow for you.

"Of course you can always come join us or we can sleep somewhere else and you can use the bed if you want, don't feel like you have to stay out here if you can't sleep or something. Insomnia sucks." Ashley offers.

"Thank you," you repeat, but with your eyes quickly closing and your exhaustion from the situation and your inadequate sleep, you know it wouldn't matter much where you sleep. "Good night."

"Sleep well." Hannah gently calls and they walked back to the bed, leaving you for the night.

Zzzz...
