Chapter 9 by Yabusa Yabusa

Did you leave it in the bathroom at the putt-putt place like an absolute fool?

Wait, here it is

Relief washed over you as you found the coin at the bottom of your backpack. There is no way you would have been able to go back to Putt-topia and find an ancient coin that you left on the counter, someone would have picked it up for sure. You need to be more careful with this sort of stuff...

"Okay, crisis averted, I've got it."

"...what, is that like a quarter-Euro?" Archer asks.

"Apparently that's not a thing. Look... just watch. It's an ancient coin that I got from none other than Emilia King. And it does..." you set the coin down on the table in front of you, Venus side up. Just as instantly as the first two times, your body shifts, until you are once again the shorter girl version of yourself, swimming in your own clothes once more. "...this."

Felicia stared for a moment, not sure what she was looking at for a moment. And then she starts applauding, and you tilt your head in confusion.

"Bravo, that was amazing John! I didn't know you were learning stage magic, how the hell did you do that! Where do you find the time to learn that stuff with all your schoolwork, and more importantly, why didn't you invite me to the classes too!" Felicia looked left and right--really anywhere except directly at you--trying to figure out where the 'real' you is hiding. There's not a lot of options in a studio apartment by a college dorm for that. Felicia turned back to you, and extended her hand. "I'm Archer, by the way. Wow, John really lucked out getting an assistant like you to help, you're stunning! Can you do card stuff?"

You rolled your eyes. "No, Archer... it's me, I'm John. It wasn't stage magic, it's real magic! I'm not kidding when I said I went to Emilia King's estate earlier, she has all these weird coins and they magically improve a talent that you want, but the catch is that if the coin lands a certain way, then I, well, change."

Archer stares at you for a moment more, and then she swoops down to pick up the coin, tossing it on to the table. It lands Mars-side up. "Looks like the coin's a little busted. Look, I appreciate your commitment to the bit but still, how'd he do it?"

"No, the magic needs an hour between coin flips... look, I'm John! I'll do whatever you need to prove it! I'm wearing the exact same clothes as I was just a moment ago, magicians don't swap clothes with their assistants..!"

Felicia ponders this fact for a moment. "I was going to ask about that... how he got that mustard stain to match perfectly on two sets of clothes." She taps her chin, but eventually looks at you, once again forming a grin. "Okay, kiss me."

"Oh come on, Felicia, what kind of test is--"

"It's a good test! I remember how John kisses, and there's no way you could replicate it. And if I'm right, then the kiss doubles as an apology, which I will gladly accept."

None of that made any sense, but you waddled over in your oversized clothes, tumbled down onto the couch next to Felicia, and reached out to her face with your smaller hands. "Uh, I mean it'll be a little awkward since sizes are a bit different, but..." you pull Archer into a kiss quickly, closing your eyes as your lips locked. Your willingness, and her willingness, to see how far this rabbit hole goes made it far easier to forget for a moment that you were a woman kissing your best friend, and you could just give into the moment. You didn't really know how to 'replicate' your own kiss, what that even meant, so you just went on auto-pilot. Your head tilts, how you used your tongue, how you breathed, what you did with your hands as they glided back along Archer's head, it felt pretty convincing to you? A kiss was a kiss to you, you didn't think Felicia was like a kiss sommelier and could tell one from another any more than she could tell two wines apart unless one was red and the other was white.

You broke the kiss and looked at Felicia, who still had her eyes closed and lips slightly parted open, frozen in place. You waited patiently for her verdict.

Does Felicia believe you?
