Chapter 34
by Leviathan
What's next?
Versus Cathleen Bate
Cathleen Bate and Izuku. Both of them were All Might fans, but while Izuku concealed his admiration and kept his secrets, Kate was... very unsubtle about it. When sporting her Hero Costume, she had styled her hair with hair tufts similar to All Might's, except eight of them compared to just two. Her outfit's color scheme screamed American, even if it was a bit more neon than the classic colors. Both of them were also class presidents and apparently, liked by their respective classes quite a bit. And judging by her body's shape... both of them could get very physical. This matchup was strangely fitting.
Izuku had no idea what her Quirk was, only having that fish spine incident to go off of. Luckily, he had taken note of it back then, and had come up with some theories that seemed too far-fetched to be true. She had said Toga's name twice and placed a hand on her shoulder, both of which were probably limitations of her Quirk. Her eye also had changed color slightly, which likely meant her eye color is a tell of when she's using her Quirk. And then, she said something completely absurd - that Toga's digestive system had evolved to eat spines safely - and yet, Toga immediately managed to stop **** even though she did not spit out the spine.
Biological control? That sounded absurd to say the least, but the thing bothering him the most is that calling her name and referring to evolution made no sense for that kind of power. The way she made it sound... It was causing him no small amount of worry. Neither did her direct advance towards him, towering over him at arm's length even though the fight hadn't started yet.
Midnight raised her whip as if about to tell her to step away, but Kate lifted a hand to ask for permission before she got a word in. "I swear not to use my Quirk before the match starts. I just want to talk with Izuh-kuh-kun a little." Citing something about the vigor of youth, the teacher allowed it on a whim. Meanwhile, Kate reached for his costume's bunny-like hood, putting it on him rather than leaving it hanging down his neck. "You always hide hood and never wear it. Don't be ashamed of being fanboy. Embrace the fanboy. I said it yesterday, but a reminder still: No hard feelings, whoever wins?"
Now hooded and looking rabbit-like, his scleras shaded much like All Might's, Izuku gave her a small yet determined nod. "Good, good. I'll step away now. [Good luck!]" Once she was standing a respectable distance away, Mic started the countdown. "THREE... TWO... ONE... START!"
Trumpets gave the signal to begin. Izuku charged against her using his top-tier human speed alone, while she held a hand in front of her. "[Air. The air in front of me will cease to exist.]" What he got hit by could only be described as a massive shockwave, squeezing air out of his lungs and turning both of Kate's eyes fully red. Even the dome, really far behind him, got hit by the sudden shockwave as most of the space was made into a vacuum. "[Ah, crap, I forgot to declare a range and specify only oxygen. Stupid nerves. Let's try again...]" She nonchalantly cleared up her voice even though Izuku was nearly asphyxiating, only holding together thanks to his peak human breath-holding. "[Rule overwrite: Oxygen. The oxygen within three meters of Cathleen Bate's body ceases to exist.]"
Izuku gasped loudly and tried to recover his breath, seeing Kate hold her own with cheeks puffed up. Her left eye had gone back to its original blue color, but the right one was still fully red. What did the eyes mean? He had no time to think about anything! Literally, as she was charging straight for him while erasing the oxygen in her way. "[Cathleen Bate. Cathleen Bate is as strong as All Might.]" Hearing this, he started figuring out how her Quirk worked. Spreading One For All through his entire body at a low enough output that he could control it, he caught the incoming juggernaut's hands with his own, and even then he was bending backwards from the sheer power she was packing.
Time crawled down as the two of them stared into each other's eyes. Kate's sweat made her entire body glisten under her sheer clothing, her nipples now clearly noticeable as bulges in her dress. Her breath came out steamy and humid, her tongue tracing her lips in an obviously lewd expression.
[If you look at me like that... you'll make me wanna gobble you up, Izuku~]
Time came back to its usual flow, with both of them struggling against each other with fingers interlocked. Her fully red eyes stared him down, as he kept his mouth closed and held in his breath to make sure he countered the lack of oxygen around him as much as possible. Yet, surprisingly, her right eye turned back to blue in the middle of the contest of strength, and he realized she was now breathing normally. "[Izuku Midoriya.]" Oh crap - the same that happened with Toga! With a quick increase to 50% in his One For All output around his arms, he twisted her hands away from him and passed her by in a hurry, but she didn't stop reciting her 'rule' despite not being in contact with him anymore. Was one touch enough?
"[Izuku Midoriya cannot breathe until he gives up.]"
He had taken a deep breath the moment her oxygen scarcity field was lifted, so he managed to give himself all the oxygen he could get in one try. Danger Sense was to thank for the quick reaction, and Heroic Body for the ability to hold his breath for much longer than normal people. He had to defeat her as soon as humanly possible now.
Apparently confident in her victory, Kate was no longer approaching him, and even deigned it fitting to explain her Quirk. "[My Quirk is called New Order. When I touch something and call out its name, I can then impose a rule upon it, changing the way it works. It's not something you can defeat with sheer power alone.]" Biting his lip, Izuku flash-stepped into her, but she stopped his 50%-enhanced punch dead in its tracks with an open hand, though her legs struggled not to budge under all that power behind it.
Izuku crouched down, delivering a lightning-fast sweeping kick that caused her to trip... for all of an instant before she rolled back up. His chest felt heavy, and he could feel his heart pounding in **** need of oxygen. 50% wasn't going to cut it - he'd just need to fight his next battles with bruised limbs-
Danger Sense struck his head like a bolt of lightning, making him cross his arms in front of his chest as a massive punch struck them. The sheer **** behind the haymaker sent him flying towards the other side of the dome, hitting his back against it. The punch had left a nasty bruise - she was clearly not as powerful as All Might despite her rule's claim, but she was definitely more than 50% of the way there. Maybe 60% or 70%.
["Tick, tock, tick, tock. How long can you hold your breath, Izuku? If you don't give up, you'll just pass out, you know?"] She crossed her arms. Those hits had made him exhale a little; he was in deep trouble if he couldn't finish this fight once and for all.
The green-haired boy stood up and braced his entire body for what he was about to do, tiny shockwaves spreading through his body and ripping up parts of his hero costume, his hair standing up straight and spiky rather than its usual soft fluff. He had never spread 100% of One For All through all of his body before, but he was willing to take a gamble for the sake of showing the world who he was.
As half of his chest cloth ripped to shreds, displaying a set of ripped yet small muscles, Izuku vanished into thin air. Half a moment later, Cathleen had hit her own side of the dome, leaving an amazon-sized human imprint into it. The air had gotten knocked out of her lungs; her arms were bleeding at the point where Izuku landed a single punch, with severe bruises spreading out of those bleeding spots. While she gasped for air, she could only see afterimages of Izuku bouncing around the entirety of the dome, even vertically despite how ridiculously tall it was, doing so in order to throw her off in case she ruled insane reflexes for herself.
"[F-Fuck, too strong! Like All Might! I can't give myself perfect reaction speed and strength, or he'll recover his breath... I need to tough it out for now! Take out the strength rule, and then... New Order! Cathleen Bate is tougher than the toughest carbon steel alloy!]"
crash
bang
pow
thud
boom
Each hit Izuku landed scarred the stadium. The ground craterized under the weight of his axe kicks; the dome dented and cracked every time Cathleen landed against it. She was faring surprisingly well as far as appearances were concerned - his attacks were mostly just pushing her away and knocking the wind out of her sails, but her body only took some small bruises where his blows landed. This was going nowhere, and he was starting to feel his consciousness drift away. Wasn't there anything he could do? Was he simply going to collapse and lose his first match?
thud
His body laid on the ground, eyes glossy and unfocused. Kate took a second to take a breather, but one of her eyes returned to a blue color the moment she realized Izuku wasn't moving. "[Haah... haah... how goddamn long can he hold his breath...? I'm pretty sure we've been here more than ten minutes... Always full of surprises, this boy.]" She started to approach his now-breathing body, noticing the painful-looking bruising spread through his entire body - he looked an unhealthy shade of tan from how much of his body the bruises covered.
Midnight started speaking as Kate's other eye slowly went back to blue. "And the winner is-"
The entire audience gasped. Kate hit the ground face-first, her head kept pinned down by an arm coated in emerald lightning. Her arms had been put in a lock by Izuku's other arm, his full body painfully exerting around 20% of One For All's might. With her mouth pressed against the ground, she could not speak out rules to get out of this.
He had faked losing consciousness as a gamble for her to give his breathing back and lower her guard.
"...-Midoriya Izuku!"
The crowd went absolutely wild as Izuku helped a pouting Kate to her feet. This was the beginning of his legend as a hero. He couldn't help but bawl his eyes out, with this much pressure upon him finally breaking the dam.
Recovery Girl was going to scold him so badly.
Does she?
