Vampires

The girl looked healthy, perfect prey for the creature that was stalking her. It had done this a thousand times before over the centuries, feeding off innocent creatures, draining them of their blood and leaving them desiccated husks. It knew what they would become if it didn't finish it's feeding. The same thing that happened to the creature, darkness would take over, the hunger would become everything. That was the last thing it wanted. The more of its kind that were out there, the more competition for food, and the more chance of discovery.

It only fed at night, away from the dreaded sun. It barely remembered what the sun looked like, but the feeling of its rays on the creature's skin just felt like ****, so it lived at night, its days spent hidden underneath the Central Park in the old mausoleum forgotten by time. The girl was alone, her short skirt showing plenty of flesh. The creature liked drinking from the thigh, sometimes higher, but the neck was the finest source of nutrition, the blood flowed strongest there and the creature hadn't drunk for weeks. It was hungry. It snuffled quietly, the thought of blood making it salivate. The girl looked around, sensing something.

"Hello? Is there someone there?"

She didn't have time to reach into her bag, the creature was at her throat in a second, its fangs extended, digging into her flesh, sinking into her neck and drawing sustenance from her life blood. Her body reacted to the bite, enzymes coating its fangs now flowing through her veins, tricking her brain and transforming pain into pleasure. The creature hissed at him but knew that it was not strong enough to fight, not while newly fed, it would take hours for the blood to digest and for the creature to regain its full strength and so the creature ran. In seconds it was gone, leaving the panting woman bleeding on the path.

"Jesus, are you ok lady? Was he **** you? Good thing we came along!" said the officer.

"I... I don't know what happened. He was just there all of a sudden... he... he bit me!"

The woman stood shakily, steadying herself on the officer's arm. She felt the warmth of his body through the cotton of his shirt. A thin trail of blood traced its way down her neck and deep into her cleavage. She shuddered.

"Thank you.. officer."

"No worries Miss. Do you have a name?"

She put her hand to her neck, feeling the warm moisture of the blood, but no pain. Something inside her, a new instinct, made her want to taste the thick fluid, to greedily spoon it into her mouth. She shook her head, driving out the errant thoughts, and looked up at her savior.

"Oh yes, sorry, of course. My name is..."
