Use the man to break in

You return to the central offices and wait for a few minutes. The man takes his car and his two suspicious passengers in another direction--probably another apartment complex--so this might be a good time to break in.

You summon the man and his keys at a corner where you don't see any cameras, a few blocks away. Upon inspection, the keys you summoned directly are much more detailed than the keys on the "echo's" belt.

You compare his fingertips to the fingers of your two memorized girls. His are far more detailed.

You suspect that an "echo" is filled in with a purpose in mind. It is detailed in ways that make it work but not in unrelated ways. Summoning a device gives you a working one, but summoning a person who carries a device will only give you a prop.
