Update 6/26/26

To all my readers, I wanted to give everyone a quick update on where things stand.

The last couple of chapters of The Hills Have Thighs have really taken it out of me. That story goes to some exceptionally dark places, and I've discovered that I have to be in a very specific headspace to write material like that. It's not something I can simply ****. If I try to push through when I'm not feeling it, the writing suffers, and I'd rather wait than produce chapters that aren't up to the standard I want.

I still have a couple more chapters I plan to add before I step away, but after that I'm going to take a soft break from all of my short stories for a little while.

The biggest reason is that I need to get Bells at Midnight, the first Jezebel James novel, through its final draft and published on Amazon. That project has been my primary focus for quite a while now, and I owe it to myself to finally carry it across the finish line. I also have a couple of other writing projects that deserve some attention.

That doesn't mean the short stories are finished or abandoned. Quite the opposite. I've learned over the years that I write my best work when inspiration is leading the way instead of me dragging it along behind me. When I know where one of these stories wants to go next, whether it's The Hills Have Thighs, The Kindness of Ravens, No Pain, No Gain, Shorn Star, or something entirely new, I'll come back and keep writing.

In the meantime, I'll still be around, and I fully expect to return once the ideas start demanding to be written again.
