Chapter 3 by Uh-Oh Uh-Oh

Well? Up or Down?

Up and away!

“Damn it! I’m not going to go down there! Screw the porn,” Grey never thought he would ever say that phrase in his life, but apparently this vacation was full of surprises. Grey gave one last **** glance down into the hellish abyss that claimed his ladies, and then reluctantly climbed up the rest of the way.

Panting, slipping, and emotionally hurt, Grey finally got up onto the ledge. Grey immediately sprawled out on the cold wet rock, grateful that he didn’t risk falling down onto the most likely very sharp rocks or equally unpleasant animals below. His breaths came shallow and fast, after having such a strenuous workout of trying not to die.

The rain played on his face, forcing him to squint up into the dark sky. The black clouds overhead rolled and heaved, as if threatening to rain even harder. His clothes, if already damp, were now laden with water. Even his pockets seemed filled with the freezing liquid. His panting slowed and his body became even more drenched.

“Argh! This sucks!!” Grey yelled at the clouds above. They predictably answered with more rain and low rumblings off in the distance. Grey liked rain, but this storm was ridiculous. The rain was so thick it fell like a solid wall of water. And everything was dark. Even the moon was obscured by the dark thunderheads above.

Grey looked around, blind as a bat with not only the darkness but with his wet hair in his face. “I gotta find a cave or something…” He grouped on his hands and knees on the hard stone surface. He felt like someone had taken a blindfold made of icy water and wrapped it around his entire body. Needless to say, that was not a pleasant feeling.

Suddenly light filled the night, nearly blinding him. Before he threw up his arms to shield his eyes from the illuminating blaze, he saw a hole. No, it was a cave! And it was just ahead of him, lodged in the side of a rocky spire.

“Awesome! I think my luck has changed for the bet-” Grey did a face-plant as he fell off the rock he was perched on in his haste. Even a glancing blow to the head on a rock is nowhere near a fun experience, which Grey had now learned. A steam of curses that need not be written followed him as he scuttled towards the cave while moving like a drunken beetle.

Another bolt lit the mountain, accompanied with its thunderous cry. Grey could feel the rocks beneath him shudder, making him so much more grateful to have found the sanctuary in front of him. He was about twenty feet away now, and he carefully memorized all the pitfalls and jutting rocks in front of him in his fleeting vision. Before the light was even completely fizzled out, Grey was sprinting full speed to get into the stone passage.

His shoes were not made for rock climbing, nor were they very good on wet surfaces. But Grey didn’t care as long as he got into that damn cave! Only a few more feet separated him from the sheet-like rain behind from the dry cave ahead.

“Yes!! I made it!” Grey exclaimed as he threw himself into the crevice. A loud crack of light followed him, showing him what he was running into.

“Oh shit!!!”

He was right about the cave. It was nice and dry. But he didn’t anticipate the huge black pit just beyond the entrance. His legs froze, and his feet stopped peddling towards the deep hole. Thanks to his shoes, however, he slid along that smooth rock like he was skating in an ice rink. His last thought before plummeting down into the darkness when along the lines of “@$#%*&!!!”

Ironically, in Grey’s attempt to escape a very large fall, he ran right into one. Such is the luck of a guy lost in Europe it seems. But what lies in the darkness for our unfortunate hero?

Damn, he's unlucky isnt he?
