Chapter 119

Is the difficulty doubled too?
Unsure at this point.
John turned back and saw some sort of four legged dinosaur with a huge saddle, four enormous clay urns and a few lizardmen riding it. The dinosaur was of a dark green hue while the lizardmen were brown and with yellow bellies. They were armed with clubs reinforce with obsidian shards, spears and one had a blowpipe.
Tarkosaure lvl12 creature.
This large omnivorous reptile only attacks when threatened or instructed to. It is slow outside of the swamps it usually inhabits, but his large jaw can crush things without effort.
Thick Hide: immune to light projectiles, +50 armor
Amphibious: can stay very long underwater, +50% movement speed in shallow waters.
Ravenous: attacks from his maw can amputate limbs (40% chance)
1500/1500hp
Yellowscale hunters , lvl10 humanoid.
These lizardmen are from the Yellowscale tribe. Despite being 5 feet tall these creatures are redoutable hunters. They hunt in packs and bring back food for their tribe.
Pack instinct: grants attacks of opportunities on any enemy engaged with another hunter.
Survivalist: can feed from anything organic, immune to ingested toxins.

"Sylvia! Run!" he shouted. One dinosaur, seven hunters, not something he wanted to face unprepared. The lead lizard began to run toward them spear in hand as soon as he noticed them fleeing. John took a second in his flight to cast Restrain on him, taking pleasure in seeing him fall of all his height on a large stump, breaking a few teeth in the process. (despite this incident he still had too many of them for John's comfort.)
Sylvia raised her staff too and some plants began to coil themselves around the feet and ankles of the lizards that were on the ground. John only needed a second to catch his breath and come up with a plan. After a short run and while the lizards were occupied with freeing their trapped brethren, John dragged Sylvia behind a very large tree.
"Do you have any real offensive spells?" he asked his companion.
"I can use toxic pollen to poison them or put them to sleep. And use the plants around us to attack them." she explained.
She was a healer, a mother now, she was used to nurture and take care of things. John remembered that she had kept herself out of the fight during their first encounter, only attacking once being the last one standing. He remembered the claws that her hands could become and the image of rage her eyes could evoke.
Clad in her thick wooden armor and with the staff to boost her powers, John was sure she could handle herself and protect him.
"Try to slow them down." He told her before putting on a painting mask with filters and pulling his hood up. Black Wind in one hand, Dragon Fang in the other, John moved slowly towards the next tree and stood in ambush. He could see a sort of yellow fruit growing on one of the vines of Sylvia...
She plucked it and threw it as far as she could towards the group of hunters following them. As soon as it hit the ground it exploded in a cloud of yellow dust, making the lizardmen cough and rub their eyes. It was the cue John had waited for, he sprung from behind the tree and approached behind a lizardman that couldn't see him. He gathered power to use Charged strike with a lightning modifier on both his weapons and stabbed him with his sword, going under his right arm.
212 dmg (sneak attack, charged strike)
Just as the creature noticed the blade burrowing in his chest, John stabbed it in the neck with the dagger.
56 dmg (charged strike)
John only had a second to sidestep on his left, using his sword as leverage to rotate the wounded enemy. Three spears hit him on the throat and chest, another one grazed John's thigh, leaving a long cut. John instantly began feeling some warmth on his leg, Sylvia was channeling some golden energy from her staff, giving him back all the hp he had lost.

His kinsmen had put down the creature he had attacked. John removed his blades from the dead body and engaged his enemies. The blowpipe dart bounced harmlessly off one of the armor plates on his chest and he managed to slice one of the lizardmen while parrying a spear strike with his dagger.
64 dmg
The moves of the creatures were slow and hesitant, to be honest they looked drunk, Sylvia's pollen bomb had been effective. As soon as she stopped healing him she focused her attention back on what she was first doing, one of the coughing lizardmen had fallen on the ground and was being strangled by roots springing from the ground.
John jumped between two lizards that had already thrown their spears at him and attacked with Black Wind.

Neat strikes in quick successions, the lizards tried to block the attacks bare handed, one left a hand behind, the other one most of his fingers. John wondered if like some lizard they would grow back, of course he had no intention to let them live long enough to test it.
The lizard using the blowpipe had a lot of trouble firing it, the cough and his bloodshot eyes were making it near impossible to use it properly. John began to use his dagger as a focus to cast spells, letting go of a volley of Magic Projectiles on the hunters.

One other hunter retreated behind the huge beast and blew a loud horn. The creature began roaring again and advanced maw open revealing rows of dagger sized fangs.
John had been too focused on the beast and received a massive blow of one of the obsidian tipped clubs. It sent him rolling on the ground, but rather than to finish him the hunters began to retreat behind their monster.

John took a pair of incendiary projectiles from his inventory, he had only crafted a pack of ten and hadn't tried them yet. The recipe he had checked online should work, but knowing if a lightning spell could ignite it was another unanswered question.
He threw them toward the open mouth of the beast and used Magic Projectile mid air with a lightning modifier. The two small balls exploded in a fireball, splattering the creature's head with droplet of burning materials. The beast panicked, from the screaming and rush of xp, John realized that it had trampled over its former riders.

The lizardmen Sylvia had attacked had finally died and he got some xp from it. John was curious as to know how much she got out of it and how to exploit that, but it wasn't a thing to think about during a fight.
The three remaining lizards had begun defending themselves from their mount. They apparently knew a lot about it or had systems in place for such emergencies, the life of the creature was going down pretty fast. The scaly hide of the beast looked soft and it probably wasn't an apex predator here, or they would have had a lot of trouble taming them.
The attacks had distracted the beast who had turned back to face its former masters. John was feeling his life go up and decided to finish the fight. Getting up he began to run and jumped forward to get on the beast's back, decided to burrow his blade in its brain.

John had made a perfect jump, but mid air the long muscular tail of the creature striked like a baseball bat sending him against a tree. Even with Gamer's body a blow that should have shattered his whole ribcage hurt a lot.
A puddle of hot blood was forming on the ground, fed by the stream flowing between the creature's legs. A lizard had got a lucky hit in, while being eaten alive. His spear had sectioned the carotid of the Tarkosaure. John didn't get any xp for that, this unlucky hero was the only hunter that John didn't manage to hit before his ****.
He painstakingly got up and watched his hp trickle up with Sylvia still busy keeping him alive. (he would have to reward her properly for that after this adventure.) All he could hear now was the crunching sound of the last lizards being eaten and the heavy breathing of the scaly monster.
