Under the bridge!

You are torn between just ignoring the matter and passing to the other side, and sneaking under the bridge to see if there is anything good down there.

At the end you decide to risk it, after all it still looks easier than killing adventurers yourself. You just have to not get caught.

You go a safe distance away from the bridge, you hide your spear next to a tree, and you enter the cold waters of the river. You start swimming, mostly letting the river carry you towards the bridge.

The bridge forms two smooth arches, with a thick pier in the middle, supporting the bridge. You notice that there seems to be a large hole dug in the middle of the pier. You try to swim towards it, but you soon realize that you underestimated the current of the river.

The strong current mercilessly smashes you on the pier. You suffer some damage on your leg, but you don't make a sound and you try to cling on it. Sadly you fail to do so, and the river starts dragging you under the bridge.

No matter how much you try to grab the pier and stop, you are moving too fast and you can't. At the last moment before you come out of the other side of the bridge, you draw an arrow and stick it on the pier. Luckily it sticks well, and with its help you manage to climb on the pier.

You are reassured by the moans coming from above that you weren't noticed.

You slowly start climbing with great difficulty towards the hole you noticed before.

Your right leg hurts a lot, but you finally manage to reach it. It is dark inside, but your eyes see just fine.

There are some bones littering the floor, and you see some pelts dropped on the side - probably a crude bed, and a pile of shiny items on the other side.

You approach the pile of the items. You don't have very much time, so you just spread them around trying to not make loud noises.

In the pile you find:

• A damaged breastplate (sized for a dwarf, but you can fit in it)
• A small pile of coins. Most of them are copper, some of them are silver and very few are gold. It will take time to examine them one by one, obviously.
• a silver locket mixed in the coins
• a rusted shortsword

As you are searching, you notice that there is a thin and long black snake hidden inside the pile, watching you with cold eyes.

You immediately take a step back, but it doesn't move at all.

As you take a deep breath and examine it closer, you notice that it isn't really a snake. It is a whip that is made from some weird material and it looks exactly like a snake, its head being at the base of the handle and the rest of its tail as the tail of the whip.

You don't have much time, you have to decide what you should try to take with you, and how you plan to carrying it out while swimming.

You also have to note that your leg is lightly wounded and it will need some time to heal before you can comfortably use it.
