Two Options

Mia leaned back on her haunches with Roxanne a few feet away. Her mouth moved, but no words came out. She’d never encountered anything like that before. What on earth was sonic distortion, and how had this monster brought it out of the realms of sci-fi?

“What –”

“What is it?” Roxanne cut her off. “Sonic distortion. Manipulation of sound waves. I can change frequency, amplitude, and even phases, just like at the American embassy in Cuba. But this…” she gazed at it lovingly. “This just changes the frequency to make you do as I say.”

Mia gulped at that last part. Being **** into a place where she couldn’t defend herself was worse than being beaten. Perhaps there was still a way out.

“I could even make you deaf if I turned it up high enough.”

“No!”

“Maybe I should after you tried to take off my pants.”

“Wait, wait, wait.” Mia leaped to her feet in a mad panic. “This has gone too far.”

Roxanne rolled her eyes. “I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking about trying to take the device off me or run, aren’t you?”

Mia couldn’t deny that both thoughts had slipped through her mind. Roxanne was close but not close enough to outrun her thumb poised over the button. She didn’t know what the range on the device was, but she figured it was too long to outrun. No, she was trapped.

Roxanne smirked. “I knew it. None of them will work, either. Now, are you going to do as I say?”

Mia bit her lip.

Roxanne increased the intensity again, and Mia dropped to her knees at the sudden shock. “Are you going to obey?”

Mia realized she had no other choice. She had no doubts that Roxanne wasn’t lying about the device being able to kill her hearing. Whatever came now, a night of misery was better than a lifetime.

Besides, maybe an opening would come.
