Try another door

Back in the corridor Leanne didn't feel like she wanted to hang around for too long not knowing what else might happen to her. She decided to check in another of the long line of doors leading off to the residents' bedrooms. Although most of what had happened until now had actually occurred behind those doors, at least it was private and there were no clowns involved.

She selected an innocuous looking door and tapped gently before opening it up and calling inside. "Um, hello?" she said softly. "Is anyone there?"

Leanne peered through the doorway into the dim light. She saw the movement of several bodies and as her eyes adjusted to the gloom she gasped in shock. The room was filled with several figures all dressed in a range of clown costumes.

This at least explained the guy from earlier and where he'd disappeared to now. But was it anything sinister or just Halloween costume preparation? Leanne thought about leaving before she got an answer she didn't like but by now several of the clowns had spotted her and turned to check out the new intruder. Her hand was still on the doorknob, twisting it tightly as she wondered what to do.
