Chapter 7 by Jnightshade Jnightshade

Stay or go, travel by day, travel by night?

Travel in the light.

You have no desire to travel the blight in the dark. You weigh in and convince everyone to travel by day. The day is hot and the trail, if it can be called that, is dusty. Snakes abound, mostly poisonous. You have a near miss with one early on, but Grayboar slices it as it moves to strike you. By the end of the day everyone is tired. You eat with little chitchat. Soon everyone beds down. You draw second watch, so you get in little more than a nap when Chase wakes you.

Watch is boring but you resist falling asleep. With maybe only ten minutes left you see movement. You quickly realize the movement is that of a single flesheater, but that is only a distraction. At least fifteen have surrounded the encampment. You sound the alarm. Chase, Grayboar, Arielle, and Nadine all exit weapons in hand. Caramus has a single bottle. The flesheaters are fast, fast enough to avoid a dagger swung by Arielle. Two move on her and she has her hands full. Four surround Grayboar looking for an opening. Two each move to engage Harold and Chase. Two are charging Nadine. She is trying to get enough clearance to get off a bow shot, but another is closing on her from behind. Two charge Caramus, her says something and the bottle in his hand bursts into flames. In the commotion you fail to realize one is charging you.

You have no time. You do what you know how to do instinctively. You draw power from your goddess and seek to banish the undead. At the last second you realize you aren't drawing power from Omaraha, but rather the unknown deity to whom you have become linked. Power rushes through you. You simply yell,"Go!" The flesheaters immediately begin to flee. Slowly you realize you haven't banished them they are simply following your command. You made them yours. They would do anything you ask of them. Still telling them to flee felt right. You release the power of this goddess, more than a little disturbed at how easy it was to call.

The rest of the night is uneventful. Morning brings another day of travel and another early evening. You thankfully draw first watch. After your watch you return to the tent to contemplate. Clearly the deity to which you find yourself linked desires you as a priestess. There is great temptation. The power offered is more than Omaraha ever endowed you with. With this much power you could heal far more, you wonder if you might even be able to heal ****. Still your path is clear, until you know more of this deity it is best not to trifle with these powers. With that revelation you fall asleep.

You spend several more days crossing the blighted land and several more nights camping uneventfully. Finally, the terrain begins to change, first large rocks, then foothills. The sun begins to set and you are close enough to climb the mountain and enter into the vale near Alidor. Tomorrow you will arrive. Tonight you set up camp and eat dinner. There is much chatter and anticipation. Still with the moon high in the sky you retire to sleep. You have luckily drawn last watch. You fall asleep quickly and dream.

Who do you dream of?
